Reports to: Principal
Summary: Under the direction of the principal, a substitute teacher assist with classroom instruction in the absence of a regular teacher. This person follows and teaches lesson plans, aids students in understanding subject matter, and ensures that regular classroom routines are followed.
Performance Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Implement lesson plans provided by the absent teacher, ensuring continuity of instruction and adherence to curriculum guidelines.
- Manage classroom dynamics effectively, maintaining a positive and supportive learning environment.
- Provide assistance and support to students in understanding and completing assignments.
- Follow school policies and procedures, including those related to classroom management, attendance, and safety.
- Communicate effectively with school staff, including administrators, teachers, and support personnel, to ensure a smooth transition during teacher absences.
- Maintain accurate records of daily activities, including attendance and any notable incidents or achievements.
- Uphold professional standards and ethics in all interactions with students, staff, and parents.
- Utilize technological tools and resources to enhance instruction and engage students in learning.
- Demonstrate proficiency in navigating educational software and communication platforms.
- Actively participate in school-wide events and activities, as assigned, contributing to a positive work environment.
- Adapt teaching strategies to accommodate diverse student needs and learning styles.
- Model professionalism and integrity in all aspects of work, including punctuality, dress code adherence, and adherence to school policies.
- Ensure physical involvement in classroom activities, including monitoring student behavior and assisting with classroom setup and cleanup.

- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in interactions with students, staff, and parents, fostering positive relationships and trust.

Professional Conduct
The Employees are required to maintain a high standard of professional conduct. Breach of said professional conduct includes, but is not limited to, neglect of duty, dishonesty, engagement in acts contrary to Zachary Community School District policy, unlawful activities, or any other conduct that is seriously prejudicial to the school system.
Physical Involvement
Standing, sitting, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting up to 20 pounds is often required. Must be able to travel to various locations and move freely within work sites. Must have sufficient visual acuity to be able to work with computer monitors and read and interpret handwritten documents.
Education
Minimum: High School Diploma
Terms of Employment
Part-time - 9 month
Substitute teachers are employed on a daily basis, with hours specified for the site assigned.
