Job Description
Director of Projects – Conventional Power. This is a unique opportunity to lead gas-fired Power for Zachry Engineering Corp (ZEC). We want to talk to business and project professionals with proven experience in Power Generation who have deep experience in developing and executing projects and programs for Utilities and Independent Power Producers. Conventional Power at Zachry includes a mix of both EPC projects and Services to external customers in the way of technical consulting through detailed design.
The Director will be responsible for engineering project delivery, best practices and procedures, and capability growth in our conventional power portfolio. The Director will lead and manage all related Engineering Project Management professionals. Candidates should possess a minimum of 20 years of related experience that include responsibilities for project management across a significant portfolio. Strong business acumen is required along with solid experience in customer engagement. The individual should possess requisite leadership skills to motivate others, expected to manage in a team environment, coordinate efforts and require a minimum amount of direction from senior management. This individual shall demonstrate effective communication skills and participate in the growth (i.e. selection, training and development) of project management professionals.

Position is nationwide – Can work out of any one of our ZEC offices in Charlotte, Chicago, Omaha, or Houston.
Work Environment
Work will be in a conservative corporate office environment operating and functioning at a fast pace.

Responsibilities
- Lead the capability development in how we deliver engineering and related services in the conventional power market segment. Evaluate needs based on market direction, customer feedback and strategy to build out the capabilities and/or partner as required.
- Talent development, focused on both current and future project management personnel. Provide guidance, coaching, mentoring and advice to less senior professionals and staff.
- Promote of our capabilities and experience to customers and at industry events. Responsible for growing service offerings and workload with existing customers and fostering relationships with potential new customers.
- Engage and build relationships with external partners and OEMs.
- Collaborate across Zachry businesses to help realize our full enterprise strategy.
- Assist Business Development and Operations with project strategy, forming execution teams, and incorporating these into proposals and presentations.
- Further develop and enhance our Best Practices and Procedures in the project management and related functions.
- Business acumen and coaching of all project leaders in delivering positive financial outcomes. Responsible for delivering the as-sold margins and cash performance across the portfolio. Participate in negotiations for new contracts and change orders.
- Provide strong, effective and decisive leadership overseeing each project phase from planning through delivery. Ensures completion of projects to customer’s satisfaction, consistent with cost, schedule, and contract requirements.
- Possesses exceptional oral and written communication skills with all levels in the organization and externally with customers and key suppliers.
- Negotiates critical and controversial issues with top-level professionals and officers of other organizations and companies.
- Assess, plan and communicate direction on large and/or complex topics.
- Strong decision-making abilities.
- Leadership skills to motivate others, operate in a team environment, coordinate efforts and require a minimum amount of direction from project management/leadership.
- Talent selection, training and development of staff.
- Bachelor’s degree in an applicable discipline
- Have a minimum of 20 years industry experience, with 10 years of Project Management experience.
- Experience in managing teams of 50 or more people.
- Experience in Power Generation sector, in particular gas-fired combined cycle power.
- Master's degree (M. S.) or equivalent
- Experience with advanced class gas turbine technologies
