Zando, a nimble independent publisher, is seeking a full-time Publicist to join our growing and dynamic team. Reporting to our Director of Publicity, the Publicist will be involved with publicity campaigns for titles across our imprints, spanning literary, commercial, and genre fiction, YA, narrative nonfiction, and serious nonfiction. They will participate in all aspects of developing dynamic publicity campaigns for a variety of Zando titles and Imprint Partner titles. This is a full-time position based in New York, NY. Key Responsibilities:
- Take the lead on conceiving, developing, and executing publicity campaigns on select titles across the Zando lists, including engagement with Imprint Partners on a title-by-title basis. This will include execution on all aspects of a publicity campaign, from booking national and local media, radio, podcast, and TV interviews, liaising with bookstores and other venues to organize author events, coordinating travel arrangements for author tours, creating detailed tour schedules, and accompanying authors to certain bookings.
- Play a key role in managing internal processes and organizational systems alongside our wider Publicity and Marketing teams.
- Create media lists, pitch media, and draft press materials including promotional plans, galley letters, press releases, Q&As, and assist in brainstorming author op-eds as needed.
- Develop and maintain close relationships with the press, seek out and research new contacts and outlets, strategize on and implement creative ideas for publicizing titles.
- Collaborate with editors and marketing team on all aspects of a book launch.
- Share periodic updates on campaigns internally and with editors, authors, and agents.
- Coordinate publicity-related book mailings.
- Help manage awards submissions for our titles, including maintaining and updating awards databases.
- Deliver exceptional author and stakeholder care, in-house and externally.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of publicity experience in book publishing.
- Relationships with national and regional media, radio, TV, print, online, and podcasts
- Interest in literature and proven ability to generate creative angles on book/author pitches.
- Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with a strong eye for detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft and Google Suite.
- Familiarity with NetGalley, Muck Rack, Podchaser, Goodreads, and Edelweiss.
