Athletic Director

REPORTS TO: DISTRICT ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
 
Qualifications
  • The Athletic Director must be a positive people person.
  • He/She must have imagination, foresight, and the ability to mold uncoordinated and undisciplined into a robust, self-functioning unit that will preserve.
  • His/her conduct and character must be above reproach, as his/her daily association has an immeasurable influence on the youth of the community as well as public relations with our adult community.
  • The Athletic Director in the Zanesville City School System must have a commitment to excellence in his/her work with the youth and adult community.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Communication Skills: Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret information relevant to the position, including being able to speak effectively to small and large groups of people, and to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. 
  • Leadership Ability: Must be able to articulate a vision and mission for the district and provide the appropriate direction, guidance, and management skills to achieve them.
  • Mathematics Skills: Must have the ability to work with basic mathematical and computational concepts.
  • Reasoning Ability: Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Technology Skills: Able to effectively use, as it applies to your specific job function, typical office applications and computer programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations; must be able to use email.

JOB GOAL
To direct and coordinate all aspects of the athletic department and to assist in creating a positive school culture through successful athletic programming.

  • Consistent requirements to lift, carry, push and pull various supplies and/or equipment up to a maximum of 50 pounds. 
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. In conjunction with the High School, Middle School, Athletic Director and Middle School Administration provide the middle school athletic programs with:
  1. To recruit ticket sellers, ticket takers, and other personnel as needed.
  2. Personnel for ticket sales for all middle school athletic events.
  3. Collect monies and keep records for income and expenses resulting from the operation of middle school tournaments. Provide a final report for the Principal and the Middle School Athletic Director.
  4. To keep records of all expenditures and financial records for all athletic events
  1. To requisition and issue vouchers and checks for payment to all officials, security, ticket sellers, and other personnel hired at both high school and middle school events.
  2. To conduct advanced ticket sales for games to be played at host schools when needed.
  3. Conduct evaluations for middle school coaches.
  4. Securing appropriate and sufficient professional security personnel (Zanesville Police Department) at all athletic events deemed necessary.
  5. Scheduling of matches.
  6. Inform District of postponements, or cancellations due to weather, etc.
  7. Coordinates year-round facility usage at the middle school through the Principal.
  8. Aid coaches in inventory, issuing, collecting, and ordering equipment and supplies.
  9. Monitors Final Forms registration for athletes and parents.
  10. Recommends needed improvements and maintenance issues for middle school facilities.
  11. Adheres to OHSAA rules and interprets the same to all coaches.
  12. Helps coaches arrange team photo with school photographer.
  13. Set up necessary equipment and arrange workers for events.
  14. Monitors the enforcement of the Code of Conduct.
  15. Follow academic guidelines established by the Zanesville Board of Education and the OHSAA.  
  16. Aids the Middle School Athletic Director in the selection of middle school coaches.
  17. Helps coaches schedule all transportation with the transportation director.
  18. Provide athletic department with team rosters two weeks before first official scrimmage or match.
  19. Assist with crowd control and enforcing school rules.
  20. Aids coaches with information needed for student athlete’s early dismissals.
  21. Consult with trainer regarding any injury or disability and make sure AD is aware of any problematic situation.
  22. Welcome teams/officials/referees to the school and escort them to the assigned locker room/area.
  23. Coordinates with coaches and secures event timers, bookkeepers and other game day personnel.
  24. Enforce and provide due process to students in regard to the student code of conduct.
  25. Assist with middle school concession stands.
  26. Other duties as assigned.
