About your role:
The Mechanical Design Supervisor leads the mechanical design team in the development of 3D heavy industrial plant models and detailed construction drawings, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards. This role oversees the coordination between design disciplines, manages the quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) process, and ensures the accuracy of bills of materials and fabrication drawings. The Mechanical Design Supervisor also provides leadership, training, and mentorship to the design team, while collaborating with project managers to align project goals with design outputs.
Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities
- Oversee and review the creation of 3D heavy industrial plant models using P&ID drawings, ensuring adherence to project specifications and industry standards.
- Supervise the development and verification of 3D models derived from vendor drawings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with design criteria.
- Lead the coordination between design disciplines to create cohesive and complete models for piping, chutes, ducts, and related systems.
- Ensure the preparation and review of detailed construction drawings, reflecting the engineered design with precision and completeness.
- Direct the creation of piping isometric drawings and piping plans from 3D models, guaranteeing their alignment with project goals and client requirements.
- Manage the preparation and verification of bills of materials (BOM) generated from 3D models, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in procurement and fabrication processes.
- Supervise the creation of detailed fabrication drawings based on 3D models, providing clear, actionable designs for manufacturing teams.
- Lead quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) processes for all design deliverables, ensuring that all models and drawings meet project standards before release.
- Provide leadership and guidance to the mechanical design team, including training, mentoring, and performance evaluations to foster a productive and collaborative work environment.
- Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to ensure project timelines, budgets, and resources are aligned with design output and team capacity.
- Assist with other duties as assigned.
Education
- Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or similar field is required.
Type of Experience Needed to be Successful
- 10 years of previous drafting or modeling experience utilizing AutoDesk products is required.
- 3 years of leadership experience is required.

- Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Skilled in identifying, analyzing, and resolving complex engineering problems efficiently, while implementing effective long-term solutions.
- Proven leadership skills, with substantial experience leading teams or task forces on major projects, managing deliverables, timelines, and team performance.
- Advanced awareness of workflow and project tradeoffs to make decisions based on needs now and into the future.
- Must have a valid, active drivers license and ability to maintain a good driving record.
- Expert user of technology and software to execute daily tasks, including Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
Supervisory Expectations:
- The position supervises or manages the work of at least two full-time employees or the equivalent. The position includes decisions or recommendations regarding personnel actions such as hiring, disciplinary action, overtime, changes in pay and terminations.

- The work environment is the typical office environment.
