Job Description: Zartman Construction, Inc. is a leading commercial and industrial contractor known for delivering high-quality construction projects. We are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Estimating, the Estimator is responsible for assessing projects and preparing detailed cost estimates for various construction plans. This role involves collaborating with lead estimators, project managers, subcontractors, and design teams to develop accurate and competitive project cost estimates that meet safety, quality, and client expectations.
Qualifications
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management or building construction related secondary education or appropriate construction experience preferred.
- Minimum of five years’ experience in estimating and project management in General Commercial Construction.
- Highly detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to build relationships with clients, designers, and subcontractors.
- In-depth knowledge of market pricing, construction cost trends, and production rates.
- Ability to conceptualize and develop construction budgets based on preliminary designs.
- Strong analytical, reporting, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office, Blue Beam, Estimating Software (e.g. Smartbid, Building Connect, Planswift etc.) and software relevant to the construction industry (e.g. Procore, Newforma etc.).
Key Responsibilities
- Review project plans, specifications, and site conditions to assess project scope and requirements.
- Conduct site visits to evaluate project challenges and opportunities.
- Perform quantity takeoffs, prepare cost estimates, and define scopes of work for trade disciplines.
- Gather and compile data for conceptual and bid proposal estimates while analyzing subcontractor bids for accuracy and compliance.
- Maintain up-to-date pricing information from suppliers and contractors.
- Assist with bid proposals, pre-bid meetings, and site visits.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering solutions to enhance project profitability.
- Work closely with project managers, design teams, and subcontractors to ensure estimates align with project scope and schedule.
- Monitor project costs during construction, refining estimates as necessary to match actual costs.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, estimating standards, and safety regulations.
- Manage bid document control, including bid filing, data archiving, and issuing addenda to subcontractors.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel, and climb ladders as needed.
- Comfortable occasionally working outdoors in varied weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, etc.).
- Ability to travel to project sites and work at heights above 6 feet when required.
