Job Purpose 

Reporting to the Accounting Manager (US), you will be responsible for the day-to-day operational accounting, financial close tasks, and financial reporting. The senior accountant will work closely with the operations team and will be responsible for accurate and timely internal financial reporting to senior management. Working in a small, but growing team, this is a key role that will require an entrepreneurial mind-set to assist with strengthening the control environment, driving process improvements, expanding system utilization, and assisting with other tasks on an as needed basis as we continue to grow. 


Key Accountabilities/Deliverables 

  • Support the daily operations of the accounting department including making sure customers are invoiced, vendors and employees are paid, and financial results are reported  
  • Understand the financial statement numbers to discuss rationally and succinctly 
  • Create and maintain monthly accounting tasks calendar; ensure that timelines are being adhered to and communicated to managers 
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations at month end; advise and assist Accounting Manager and Corporate Controller on complex accounting matters  
  • Run point on with annual/ ad-hoc audits (financial statement, payroll, income tax, etc) including ensuring that auditors receive backup 
  • Maintain accounting records and ensure financial control policies are adhered to; report lack of compliance with financial controls to Accounting Manager and Corporate Controller 
  • Complete monthly GST, PST and WCB returns 
  • Work with branch managers to complete inventory counts, report on inventory levels and book monthly inventory entries 
  • Responsible for company credit card program, including ordering in timely manner, training employees on accurate expense reporting and documenting policies as procedures 
  • Assist with creating financial training manual for employees with a focus on operational accounting processes and documentation 
  • Implement, review, document and improve accounting process flow; liaise with operations team to ensure process flow is efficient and makes sense for the business 
  • Prepare weekly cash flow forecasts; assist with AR collection calls as needed 
  • Assist with ERP implementation, maintenance and enhancement projects 
  • Build strong working relationships with operations, IT, internal and external stakeholders 
  • Develop/ update and report on a set of operational accounting KPI’s 
  • Perform general office duties and other tasks as requested 


Key Competencies/Qualifications 

  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in management accounting and financial reporting 
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; completion of CPA or enrollment in the program will be advantageous 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Ability to identify problems and provide solutions 
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with internal stakeholders, staff, auditors 
  • Knowledge of provincial payroll legislation and systems 
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel; proficient in use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Outlook 
  • Self-starter, driven and motivated to work independently with little oversight; ability to develop and implement strategies 
  • Knowledge of ERP systems, AP automation software and other modern accounting software 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of change management 
  • Keen sense of curiosity and an ability to research, analyze data and explain numbers 
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment and able to deal with change 
  • Some travel may be required

Salary : $85,000 - $100,000
