Position Details
Zeeland Public Schools has an exciting opportunity for an Elementary School Principal at Quincy Elementary. The Elementary Principal is the chief administrator and educational leader of the staff and student body and serves in a collaborative role for the campus. Under the direction of the superintendent, s / he shall be the ultimate responsible authority for all personnel in the assigned building. In Zeeland Public Schools, given our unique “One Academic Program with Two Mascots” approach, it is crucial that our elementary principals work with their colleagues across the district to have similar programs in all buildings.
In the conduct of administration within the school environment, the maintenance of effective communication, the promotion of staff and student participation, the advancement of staff and student morale are recognized as essential components of the principal’s action. The principal will exercise a high degree of initiative and professional judgment in accomplishing ZPS objectives and in carrying out the policies adopted by the Board of Education.
While leadership, service and coordination often occur as independent “building contained functions” of the principal, there are times when communication and cooperation with “non-building” personnel (such as transportation, food service, custodial / maintenance staff, etc.) are essential. The principal shall acquaint himself / herself with policies and procedures of the entire district.
Responsibilities :
- Develop and maintain a positive and productive school culture.
- Provide curriculum leadership in your building and on district-level committees.
- Monitor the implementation, supervision, and evaluation of the instructional program.
- Engage in collaborative work of school and district improvement, accreditation, as well as State and Federal requirements.
- Support and promote the implementation of Multi-Tiered System of Supports for both academics and behavior.
- Lead school improvement efforts in the building.
- Analyze data relating to school performance on local, state and national assessments.
- Supervise the testing and special education screening process.
- Monitor student and staff records for the building.
- Plan and supervise the budget of the building.
- Administer the ordering of supplies, textbooks and equipment within the approved budget.
- Interview, recommend, assign, train, coach and dismiss staff members for an effective instructional program.
- Supervise personnel under his / her jurisdiction.
- Counsel with students, teachers and parents.
- Enforce policies and procedures of the Board of Education.
- Act as a liaison between the district and community and promote positive relations.
- Attend staff development opportunities.
- Create a building schedule for specialists and building handbook of rules.
- Provide parent and staff communication for the building.
- Maintain a building calendar.
- Monitor the safety and maintenance of the facility.
