Description: As the Senior Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist, you will be instrumental in supporting and promoting safe and environmentally responsible practices across the plant. You will act as a key resource for OSHA and EPA regulations, lead and participate in incident investigations, conduct risk assessments, and develop proactive safety strategies. Your responsibilities will include establishing and improving safety monitoring systems, coordinating the plant Safety Committee, facilitating EHS training, and ensuring accurate documentation for compliance. You will also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives like Lean and 5S, manage industrial wastewater and waste disposal, and assist with environmental permitting. This role requires strong communication, training, and organizational skills, along with the ability to influence decisions and work independently. You will report to the Plant Manager and collaborate closely with divisional and regional EHS leadership.
Requirements:
Minimum Mandatory Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Safety and Health, Environmental, or equivalent degree.
- Seven (7) or more years of experience in a safety and/or environmental role within an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- Comfortable working in a plant environment, including the ability to climb stairs, ladders, extensive walking, confined spaces, wear a respirator (if applicable), and handle exposures to hot/cold environments.
- Working knowledge of federal safety and environmental laws (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) with the ability to analyze data and create reports.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior Safety Specific Training (OSHA 30 Hour, Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health, etc.).
- Experience serving as the EHS Leader of a site for a minimum of three years.
- Recognition by a company as a Subject Matter Expert in a specific EHS discipline (e.g., Fall Protection, Machine Safeguarding, Process Safety).
- Professional Certifications in Safety, Environmental, or Occupational Health (e.g., CSP, CIH, OHST, SMS, CEM, CHMM).
- Demonstrated Root-Cause analysis skills (RCCA, 5-Whys).
- Leadership skills to direct personnel and implement initiatives.
- Analytical ability to assess complex situations and apply problem-solving strategies.
- Ability to be on call as needed 24/7.
- Ability to travel up to 5%.
