Position Overview
One of our Department of State contracts is seeking a Senior Information System Security Officer (ISSO) to support a key initiative. This role is essential in enabling informed decision-making through data-driven insights and strategies while enhancing the Department’s ability to achieve foreign policy objectives, improve operational efficiency, and ensure accountability by leveraging innovative analytics and technology solutions.
The ideal candidate will play a critical role in maintaining the security, compliance, and integrity of data systems, tools, and analytics platforms. In this position, you will collaborate with technical teams, policymakers, and leadership to oversee the implementation of federal information security standards and compliance requirements, ensuring that operations remain both secure and compliant.
Clearance Requirement: Candidates must hold a minimum Interim Secret clearance and be able to secure and maintain a Secret clearance throughout employment.
Work Location: Springfield, VA
Work Schedule (Hybrid): Three (3) days onsite at the customer's facility and two (2) remote days; work schedule is subject to change based on customer needs and without prior notice

Requirements
- Lead initiatives to secure or maintain Authority to Operate (ATO) for systems within the customer's portfolio
- Operational support for information security tool alerts, triaging, and maintenance
- Implement security controls and integrate them into the information system, ensuring proper configuration and functionality
- Manage the monitoring of information security data sources to maintain organizational situational awareness
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the information technology system cybersecurity safeguards to ensure that they provide the intended level of protection
- Identify security requirements specific to an information technology (IT) system in all phases of the system life cycle
- Routinely exercise independent judgment and discretion when leading or supporting IT cybersecurity projects
- Use technical feedback to address ATO questions within the Department’s Governance, Risk, and Compliance tool (Archangel)
- Liaise between developers and the security team to provide security updates and needed technical information
- Develop Security Impact Analysis documents
- Develop Firewall Access Board packages
- Track approved system documentation in a centralized location
- Maintain confidentiality on all sensitive security matters
- Candidate must be a United States Citizen and present proof of Citizenship, if selected
- 5 years of experience as a Compliance Officer (ISSO) or equivalent experience
- Bachelor’s degree in IT Security or related field or equivalent experience
- Experience leading an effort to obtain an ATO for a Government IT system
- Experience with the overall ATO process and requirements
- Knowledge of and ability to research Federal security requirements and guidance (FIPS, NIST, DISA, and STIGS)
- Knowledge of information security concepts
- General information technology and computer networking knowledge
- Excellent time management and communication skills
- Strong ability to research technical challenges and learn quickly to provide security guidance
- Ability to conduct research and analyze results
- Work directly with customers to research, troubleshoot, and resolve security and business process issues in a timely manner
- Participate in project and Agile planning sessions with project managers, business analysts, and technical team members to evaluate business requirements and determine their security implications
- Demonstrated ability of analytical expertise, close attention to detail, critical thinking, logic, and solution-oriented
- Experience with technical writing and technical system diagrams and documentation
- Previous DOS experience
