We are seeking a skilled Structural Steel Fitter to join our team and contribute to the fabrication and assembly of structural steel components, tanks, and heavy steel structures. This is a hands-on role that requires expertise in structural fitting—not pipefitting. While some pipefitting skills may translate to our structural tank projects, this role is focused strictly on structural steel fabrication and assembly.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fit and assemble structural steel components according to blueprints, welding symbols, and project specifications
- Use air carbon arc back gouging for weld preparation—grinders cannot be used for this process
- Work with structural tanks and heavy steel components, ensuring proper alignment and fit-up
- Operate cutting, drilling, and welding tools for steel preparation and assembly
- Assist in rigging and hoisting steel sections into place using cranes and other heavy equipment
- Collaborate with welders, fabricators, and inspectors to ensure compliance with industry standards
- Conduct quality control checks on fabricated components before welding and final assembly
- Adhere to OSHA safety regulations, including proper use of PPE and workplace safety procedures
Qualifications & Skills:
✔ Experience in structural steel fitting (not pipefitting)
✔ Ability to back gouge using air carbon arc (required)
✔ Strong knowledge of blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication processes
✔ Experience working with structural tanks and heavy steel components
✔ Familiarity with rigging and hoisting procedures
✔ Ability to operate cutting torches, plasma cutters, and fabrication tools
