What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Test Engineer position at ZF Group?
We are looking for a Laboratory Test Engineer to join our team in Lafayette, Indiana. As a Laboratory Mechatronics Engineer for ZF’s Commercial Vehicle Solutions (CVS), this position is part of the global Test & Validation (T&V) team responsible for the development and validation of ZF’s high technology electronic steering systems. With specific expertise in software/firmware development, the position will support the product and test method development of embedded firmware in the areas of control systems, diagnostics, CAN-based communications, and mechatronics.
What you can look forward to as a Laboratory Test Engineer- Support T&V globally by identifying, procuring, and implementing latest trends in laboratory equipment necessary for simulation of electronically controlled products in the laboratory setting.
- Manage Testing Plans, be capable to interact with Staff at different locations (Duesseldorf, Gelsenkirchen and Pamplona)
- Set up data acquisition instrumentation for research studies, product validation, quality audit, warranty analysis, and other specialty requests that may be required.
- Use data acquisition instrumentation and computers to control and monitor lab testing. DUT Recording, Monitoring and result Reporting as needed.
- Perform testing set up definition and scripts release and document for traceability
- Perform on-vehicle evaluations – instrument vehicles for product testing with data acquisition systems for system evaluation our products. Troubleshooting - electronic control systems and data acquisition systems.
- Bachelor's Degree in technical field (Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred) and Minimum of 5 years of experience in automotive industry, experience in mechatronics qualification testing experience preferred. Conventional and EPS Steering system knowledge is preferred (passenger car, commercial vehicle and/or off highway).
- Experience managing customer requirements and developing test cases in accordance to requirements for device and system software qualification.
- Knowledge in Quality/Statistical tools – VSM, Lean, Six Sigma, Shainin. Knowledge of environmental testing, EMC and electrical testing fundamentals. Ability to collect, maintain, and analyze data. Familiarity with ISO26262, ASPICE fundamentals
- Familiarity with measurement inspection gauges. Must be able to work with electronic equipment such as DVMs, Oscilloscopes, Frequency generators and Sound level meters.
- Ability to set-up and troubleshoot data acquisition instrumentation systems that measure parameters such as hydraulic flow, pressure, mechanical torque, force, vibration, and acceleration. Ablility to read electrical/electronic schematics and mechanical blueprints as well as ability to perform mathematical calculations.
- LabVIEW and C# programming skills. Requirement management (specifically, PTC Integrity, DOORS) and configuration management (JIRA) needed.
- Solid understanding of Vehicle CAN bus and embedded software system tools like Vector CANapy and CANalyzer. Has competence with electronic bench work (soldering, troubleshooting, cable construction) and Vehicle communication protocols (specifically, J1939, CAN, and UDS)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Power BI. Database design and maintenance for lab test stand data acquisition systems experience preferred.
