What are the responsibilities and job description for the Corporate Paralegal position at ZIM?
Main Purpose of the role: Provision of direct support to Vice President – General Counsel in the management of legal affairs throughout the Americas, Canada, and the Caribbean region, including management of Third Party recoveries (Claims and Unclaimed Cargoes).
Major Areas of Responsibility: Litigation (1st and Third Party), claims (Third Party), contracts, compliance and insurance coverage administration.
Main Tasks:
- Assists General Counsel in preparation of documents, correspondence, filings and management of legal affairs, including litigation, claims, contracts, compliance and insurance program (cover) files
- Maintains ZIM American corporate record books at direction of Region Counsel and Corporate Secretary
- Manages all Third Party recovery files retained by Claims & Insurance Department (Claims, Unclaimed Cargoes)
- Any other duties as assigned
- Reviews contracts to be executed on behalf of ZIM American and other ZIM entities, including but not limited to (FMC regulated) Service Contracts, real estate and business contracts, providing recommended action to Region Counsel
- Drafts and submits routine / period corporate reports / records for review and approval by Vice President and General Counsel / Corporate Secretary in accordance with jurisdictional requirements.
- Processes and monitors payment of vendor invoices.
- Processes and monitors disbursement or receipts of claims settlement funds.
Requirements:
- Academic education: Bachelor’s Degree (B.A./B.S.) preferred; one – two years related experience or training; equivalent combination of training, education and experience. Pre-Law, Finance, and / or Cargo Claims experience a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills; independent and analytical; ability to work effectively with a broad range of constituencies in a diverse community.
