Responsibilities
- Assemble and fit parts to create, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools using various tools and welding equipment.
- Check dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts to ensure they meet specifications using instruments like calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, or dial indicators.
- Be familiar with all tools, cutters, and fixtures used at the machine.
- Set up and operate both conventional and CNC machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, or grinders to shape parts to specified dimensions and finishes.
- Choose the appropriate cutting tools and adjust speeds and feeds as needed, using sound judgment.
- Perform minor tool fabrication to complete tasks.
- Apply knowledge of mathematics and shop trigonometry.
- Safely move and set up large pieces using proper lifting devices.
- Review blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan the sequence of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies.
- Inspect the quality of each piece before proceeding to the next stage.
- Continuously work on improving safety, quality, efficiency, and procedures to enhance job performance.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Journeyman certification or Post Secondary education required
- 2-3 years experience in related field
