What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Recreation Day Camp Counselor position at ZION PARK DISTRICT?
JOB SUMMARY:
Summer Camp Counselors ensure the physical, mental and emotional safety of campers. They will also facilitate daily camp activities with groups and individuals, implement weekly programming, and facilitate community building within the camper group, as well as within the greater camp community.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participates in the planning, implementation and facilitation of all camp activities as needed.
- Responsible for participating in and leading camper activities.
- Assists in the coordination of all camp activities.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable in all situations.
- Promotes the Zion Park District in a positive manner to the public and co-workers.
- Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Maintains effective relationships with other staff and works as a member of the staff team.
- Assists in the opening and closing of program sites/rooms in accordance with established procedures.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
- Ability to interact with staff, parents, and children.
- Knowledge of indoor and outdoor games and ability.
- Ability to think “on your feet” and assess situations.
- Awareness of developmental needs and characteristics of children age 7 – 21.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending and twisting upper body.
ENVIROMENTAL DEMANDS:
- Continuous outdoor activity and exposure to weather.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum age: 16 years old; 17 preferred.
- Documented experience working with school – aged children.
- Experience and demonstrated sensitivity in working with people of various ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Experience in a camp setting.
- Adherence to all Personnel Polices & Procedures for Summer Camp Staff.
- Exhibits good judgment and risk management assessment skills.
- Exhibits mature and responsible behavior at all times.
- Ability to work with and teach children ages 7 to 21.
