What are the responsibilities and job description for the Forklift Operator position at Zip-O-Laminators?
SUMMARY:
Performs tasks associate with that of a lumber loading forklift person. Complies with all company safety rules and regulations. Demonstrates the ability to be part of the production team by communicating and working within the parameters of the production department under the direction of the production supervisor.
The primary purpose of this position is to guarantee the efficient operation of the loading/unloading of trucks and production areas. When the forklift operator is not loading/unloading a truck, they are responsible for maximizing production of the Finish End and/or Pre-Glue Departments by setting packages, pulling staples, setting stickers on wrapping, easing and marking various unit widths, etc. When the forklift operator is loading a truck, it is their responsibility to get the truck loaded accurately and efficiently and with no damage to product.
The appearance and condition of our product, when received by customers, is extremely important to the success of Zip-O. The forklift operator has the responsibility to put the finishing and final touches on our products. Zip-O is proud of what is produced and that pride is displayed in the outstanding appearance of those products. Our success depends upon our products not just looking good, but also being better than our competitors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Includes but is not limited to:
- Operate forklift in a safe and nondestructive manner.
- Turn in daily forklift safety check list to supervisor.
- Load/unload units onto trucks without damaging product.
- Ensure truck loading/unloading documentation is accurate.
- Maintain organized and orderly unit stacking.
- Pick up spilled boards/units.
- Watch for improperly built units, size lettering, banding, ripped paper wrap, etc.
- Help carry supplies into banding area, such as banding, paper, corner protectors, etc.
- Maintain shipping yard in a clean and organized fashion.
- Fill forklift with fuel, check oil, water and hydraulic fluid.
- Help Finish End driver remove and stack unites from outside rolls.
- Know and utilize all Lock Out/Tag Out Procedures.
- Report any potential machinery defects immediately.
- Notify your supervisor of any quality issues immediately.
- Remain alert at all times.
- Help ensure that all employees maintain a safe working environment and safe work habits.
- Keep work areas clean and orderly.
- Down time is clean up and minor maintenance time.
- And other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Must understand fundamentals of Lam Plant work.
- Effective communication with co-workers and supervisor.
- Work with and promote a teamwork focused environment.
- Promote and support a strong safety culture.
- Must be willing to fill in on off shift and overtime when required.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Previous forklift driving experience is required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read and write and the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Preferred, but not required: Forklift certification(s)
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred but not required: Shipping experience

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, bend, life up to 50-100lbs., manipulate 50-250lbs., as well as hear and speak. Hand, wrist and arm repetition is required for turning lumber. Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Hearing protection is required in most areas of the Lam Beam plant.
The dust level in the work environment is usually low. Eye protection is required in all areas of the Lam Beam plant.
The environmental factors are that of the season. Exposure to heat, rain, cold, snow is a daily occurrence due to some work that is performed outside.
Personal Protective Equipment includes, but is not limited to, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves and leather, lace-up, over the ankle work boots.
