What are the responsibilities and job description for the Green Chain Puller position at Zip-O-Laminators?
SUMMARY:
Performs tasks associated with that of a green chain, clear chain, or sort chain person. Complies with all company safety rules and regulations. Demonstrates the ability to be a part of the production team by communicating and working within the parameters of the production department under the direction of the department supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Includes but is not limited to the following:
- Pulling and sorting of all lumber production on Green Chain, Sort Chain or Clear Chain.
- Making sure all lumber is pulled into its designated load; According to size, length, and grade. All units need stacked to the correct height and width.
- Make sure stickers are properly located.
- Make sure the resaw and trim is properly stacked into stable units. Trim unit will need to be banded.
- Work with other pullers as a team to ensure a safe and efficient production flow.
- Help ensure that all employees maintain a safe working environment and safe working habits.
- Know and utilize all lock-out/tag-out procedures associated with your job duties.
- When time allows, carry stickers, straighten loads, band units for forklift and clean up.
- Report any potential machinery defects immediately.
- Report any potential safety risks immediately.
- Keep work area clean and orderly.
- Downtime is clean-up and minor maintenance time.
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Must understand fundamentals of sawmilling.
- Communicate with co-workers and supervisor.
- Work to promote a supportive teamwork environment.
- Work with limited supervision
- Promote and support a strong safe work environment.
- Must be willing to fill in on off shift and overtime when required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Previous sawmill experience preferred. The ability to learn and understand techniques to safely perform the duties of the position.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and write and the ability to perform simple mathematical calculations.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Hearing protection is required in all areas of the sawmill.
The dust level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Eye protection is required on the entire property except on the green chain or inside closed cabs.
The environmental factors are that of the season. Exposure to heat, rain, cold, snow is a daily occurrence due to work performed outside at all times.
Personal Protective Equipment includes but is not limited to eye protection, hearing protection, high visibility yellow/lime vest/shirt/jacket, heavy leather gloves, leather work boots laced above the ankle, and a leather apron.
