Opening for Agronomy Assistant

Job Description

The candidate will join a diversified program with a large, progressive farm in California’s

Central Valley. The largest share of responsibility will involve potato and seed potato operations and includes support for quality control within the farm’s packing operations. Additional responsibilities will include support and implementation of agronomic decisions for potato, turf, rice, almonds, and other crops.

Job responsibilities include:

• General farming including distributing, monitoring, and recording fertilizer and pesticide recommendations and applications
• Coordinating and recording planting operations for all crops under supervision and guidance of senior managers
• Identifying variables that affect the production, harvest, and marketing of crops
• Calculating and analyzing crop yields and returns
• Coordinating operations for turf operations in conjunction with managers
• Management of irrigation equipment and advice on schedules
• Assisting with a quality control program for shed operations to meet sales and customer product specifications and requirements

The qualified candidate should possess the following:

• Excellent communication skills
• BS or MS in an agriculture-related field, agricultural experience preferred
• Strong analytical ability with good organizational skills
• Strong background in crop nutrition and soil chemistry
• Familiarity and ability to work with farm equipment
• Work well as part of a diversified team with minimal supervision
• Determination and assertiveness
• Adaptability with a passion for agriculture
• Bilingual in Spanish very strongly recommended but if not, becoming bilingual will be required

Salary : $53,600 - $67,900
