Responsibilities
- Provide support through the phases of the recovery journey.
- Provide vision-driven hope and encouragement regarding opportunities for varying levels of involvement in community-based activities, such as work, school, relationships, physical activity, self-directed hobbies, etc.
- Provide a model for both people in recovery and staff by demonstrating that recovery is possible.
- Educate staff about the recovery process, and the damaging role that stigma can play in undermining recovery.
- Assist recovering persons in having their voices fully heard and their needs, goals, and objectives established as the focal point of rehabilitation and clinical services.
- Link individuals to appropriate professional resources when needed.
- Meet with clients to encourage these independent living skills as often as necessary, which could be several times a week.
- Identify internal and external barriers to full participation in community resources, and develop strategies with other stakeholders to overcome those barriers.
- Develop relationships with community groups and agencies.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Primary diagnosis of mental illness or substance use.
- Current or former consumer of mental health or substance use services.
- Valid Certification as a Certified Peer Specialist or Peer Recovery Specialist.
- Valid Driver's License and Proof of Auto Insurance.
