Cobol Developer

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled AS400 RPG & COBOL Developer to design, develop, and maintain applications within the Remittance Application domain. The ideal candidate will have expertise in AS400 technologies, RPG, COBOL, ALBON, SQL, and DB2, with a strong understanding of remittance processing and experience working on SWIFT and Local RTGS applications. This role involves leading a small team of developers, ensuring high-quality code, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable and efficient solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Application Development & Architecture:

• Design and develop application and technical architecture components, ensuring high performance, responsiveness, and scalability.

• Perform detailed design, development, testing, and maintenance of AS400 applications.

• Develop common test data and conduct unit testing for application components.

• Adhere to security coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities.

• Identify and correct bottlenecks and fix bugs in a timely manner.

Collaboration & Documentation:

• Work closely with project managers, business analysts, and end-users to understand and refine requirements.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and implement new features.

• Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system design documents, specifications, and test documentation.

• Ensure compliance with company security standards and development methodologies.

Team Leadership & Code Quality:

• Manage a small team of developers, providing leadership, mentorship, and guidance.

• Lead the team in coding, unit testing, and code reviews, ensuring adherence to best practices.

• Ensure code quality, organization, and automation to enhance efficiency.

• Support continuous improvement by investigating alternatives and emerging technologies.

Testing & Deployment:

• Assist in System Integration Testing (SIT) and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).

• Collaborate with testers to transition application components for validation.

• Address defects and performance issues identified during testing.

• Assist in the preparation and production of software releases.

Required Skills & Experience:

• AS400 RPG & COBOL development expertise – Hands-on experience with RPG IV, COBOL/400, CLP, SQL, and DB2.

• Remittance Application experience – Strong knowledge of remittance processing systems.

• ALBON and SQL, DB2 – Experience in ALBON, SQL database queries, and DB2 administration.

Good-to-Have / Optional Skills:

• Experience working on AS400 Technologies, including ILE RPG, Free RPG, and CLLE.

• Knowledge or experience working with SWIFT and Local RTGS Applications.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Strong problem-solving skills – ability to break down complex problems into manageable parts.

• Software development/programming experience beyond AS400.
