PostgreSQL Database Administrator | Bank | Contract

The role will be primarily focused on overseeing the database administration functions which includes database installation, planning, design, implementation, backup, maintenance and optimization of PostgreSQL. The candidate should be a subject matter expert in supporting PostgreSQL.

• Install, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL databases in production and development environments.
• Monitor database performance, optimize queries, and perform index maintenance.
• Implement high availability and disaster recovery strategies, including replication and backup solutions.
• Design and maintain database schemas, tablespaces, constraints, and indexes.
• Perform Point-In-Time Recovery (PITR) and database patching.
• Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders.
• Provide 24/7 support for critical database issues.

Job Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Engineering or any related discipline.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in PostgreSQL database administration.
• Excellent proficiency in PostgreSQL database management.
• Good knowledge in PostgreSQL core components and concepts.
• In depth knowledge in SQL and Query tuning.
• Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL statements.
• Basic knowledge of Linux operating system (RedHat) and basic commands.
• Proficient writing Linux shell scripts for maintenance and automation purposes.
• Experience in setting up replication.
• Experience in preparing documentations and specifications.
• Profile server resource usage, optimize and tweak as necessary.
• Knowledge of de-facto standards and best practices in PostgreSQL.
• Ability to review recommendations on architecture/design decisions that will ensure optimal application performance with PostgreSQL.
• Knowledge of limitations in PostgreSQL and their workarounds in contrast to other popular relational databases.
• Familiarity with other databases such as MariaDB, MySQL or Oracle, is a plus.
• Position requires the ability and open to work on various work schedules that support a 24x7 coverage which may include nights, weekends and holidays.
