Job Description
The Assistant Quality Manager supports the Quality Manager in overseeing the quality assurance function, ensuring that production quality meets customer requirements and industry standards. This role is responsible for leading claim investigations, guiding the quality engineering team, ensuring ISO compliance, and driving continuous improvement. The Assistant Quality Manager also plays a key role in customer witness tests, production line quality assurance, and cross-functional collaboration to enhance overall product reliability and customer satisfaction.
➤1. Production Line Quality & Process Improvement
•Oversee root cause analysis (RCA) for production nonconformities, ensuring corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) are effectively implemented.
•Monitor and analyse First Pass Yield (FPY), Defective Parts Per Million (DPPM), and Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) to drive improvements.
•Lead internal audits to assess compliance with ISO 9001 and process standards.
•Work closely with Production to resolve in-line quality issues and improve manufacturing processes.
➤2.Customer Site Quality Issues & Zero-Hour Claims
•Lead zero-hour failure investigations, coordinating with Engineering and Service Teams to determine failure modes and corrective actions.
•Manage before in-service claims resolution, ensuring timely responses to issues found in data center commissioning and site acceptance tests (SATs).
•Oversee technical failure report preparation for customer communication and warranty claims.
➤3.Outgoing Product Inspection & Customer Witness Testing
•Oversee the final inspection process, ensuring compliance with internal quality standards and customer requirements.
•Validate and approve genset test reports, ensuring accuracy and completeness before shipment.
•Supervise customer witness testing, addressing discrepancies and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
➤4. Development & Reliability Testing
•Work with Engineering and R&D teams to define QA test plans for new products.
•Supervise functional, performance, and reliability testing of generator sets, ensuring robust validation processes.
•Provide feedback to design teams based on quality test results and field failures.
➤5. Internal & Cross-Functional Support
•Act as a liaison between Quality, Production, and Engineering, ensuring smooth collaboration on quality-related issues.
•Guide and mentor Quality Engineers, providing training on RCA, CAPA, and industry best practices.
•Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to engine warranty claims, customer complaints, and product enhancements.
➤6. ISO & Quality System Compliance
•Serve as an ISO9001 process owner or internal auditor, ensuring compliance with company quality standards.
•Assist in Management Review Meetings, preparing quality reports and implementing action plans.
•Maintain quality documentation and audits, ensuring readiness for third-party inspections and customer audits.
➤7. Any Other Assigned Tasks
•Support and conform with company environmental and safety practices as per ISO14001 guidelines.
•Handle any additional responsibilities assigned by the Quality Manager or senior management.
Job Requirement
➤Education level and/or relevant experience(s)
•5 years of experience in Quality Assurance, Quality Engineering, or Production Quality Management in a manufacturing environment.
•Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent technical discipline).
•Prior experience in diesel generator sets, heavy machinery, or electrical power systems is strongly preferred.
•Proven leadership experience in managing quality teams, training staff, and resolving customer claims.
➤Knowledge and skills (general and technical)
-Technical Expertise:
•Strong knowledge of diesel generator set manufacturing, assembly, and testing.
•Proficiency in root cause analysis (5 Why, Fishbone Diagram, 8D) and corrective action planning.
•Experience in failure analysis, troubleshooting, and CAPA implementation.
-Leadership & Collaboration:
•Ability to mentor and guide Quality Engineers.
•Strong cross-functional collaboration with Production, Engineering, and Service teams.
•Experience in leading customer-facing quality discussions and resolving warranty claims.
- Process & Compliance Management:
•In-depth understanding of ISO9001 Quality Management System and ISO14001 Environmental Standards.
•Experience with auditing processes and maintaining quality documentation.
•Proficiency in using quality metrics (FPY, PPM, COPQ) to drive process improvements.
-Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills:
•Ability to analyze complex quality data and implement continuous improvement strategies.
-Communication & Customer Engagement:
•Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical report writing and customer interactions.
•Experience in handling customer witness testing, site commissioning support, and claim resolutions.
➤Other requirements (licenses, certifications, specialized training)
Certifications (Preferred):
•Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) – ASQ or equivalent.
•ISO 9001 Lead Auditor Certification.
•Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt (advantageous).
