Role Overview
The Client Engagement and Partnership team at Standard Chartered Ventures (SCV) is responsible for three key areas:
Originating, negotiating, and executing new Joint Venture and Co-investment opportunities.
Driving strategic partnerships for portfolio companies.
Generating commercial/revenue opportunities for our ventures through the bank's clients and leveraging personal networks.
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic individual to join our team as the Client Engagement Manager covering the ASEAN and South Asia region. Reporting directly to the SCV Client Engagement and Partnership Lead, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in organizing, negotiating, and executing partnership activities across various facets of SC Ventures for the region and assisting the Lead for global activities.
Key Responsibilities
Identify the right clients to engage for co-creation/joint venturing, form hypothesis, create pipeline of clients through identification via bank and ‘non-bank’ channels – i.e., corporate venture capitalist
Raise awareness of co-creation and venture building capabilities, and venture portfolio of SCV within SCB including client coverage groups, regional leadership, as well as the external ecosystem
Originate, develop, and incubate joint venture ideas along with corporate client partners, including bringing ideas through the venture building framework by developing investment pitch decks, business model/financial plan, customer validation etc…
Maintenance of sales pipeline & Objectives and Key Results (‘OKRs’) via internal tools
Spearhead initial discussions with clients along with the relationship teams and identify areas for collaboration by understanding key strategic priorities of client through problem statement identification/design-thinking workshops etc
Facilitate workshops and develop initial proposition: Problem statements, Research, Market Sizing, Prototyping, Defining ‘what good looks like’, Matching partners / solutions, Potential Go-To-Market partners, etc.
Thematic based / industry market research to identify potential areas of disruption and joint venture creation opportunities
Work with corporate development and legal teams to drive and own commercial negotiations for MOU’s/Joint Development agreements, term sheets etc…
Skills, Experience & Competencies
Experience with corporate client coverage, engagement, and strategic partnerships
Relationships / access to corporate client ecosystem & corporate venture capital units
Strong understanding of banking products and awareness of new business models related to banking and financial services, financial technology
Strong understanding of financial models, especially for early stage startup’s
Network beyond SCB clients is considered a plus e.g., CVC, Fintech’s
Disciplined execution - ability to follow-through on agreed actions in timeline manner
Excellent communication, presentation, time-management, research and problem-solving skills
Understanding of Human-Centered Design, Venture Building and Lean-start-up methodologies is an advantage
Additional Requirements
8 years in institutional coverage, corporate partnerships/strategic partnership, management consulting / origination role
Experience in a Corporate Venture Capital / Corporate development is a plus
Broad understanding of Banking products
Connected to start-up / VC / CVC landscape is a plus
Experience in technology / Financial institutions & large global organization
