Job Summary:

As the Production Director, you will be a pivotal leader in our plant start-up. The production director will play a crucial role in ensuring 1440 foods run smoothly, efficiently, and in compliance with regulations, while driving continuous improvement and maximizing productivity. This role would encompass overseeing the entire production process to ensure efficiency, quality, and safety in the manufacturing of food products.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Production Planning and Scheduling: Develop production schedules and plans to meet customer demand while optimizing resources and minimizing downtime.
  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate production processes to identify areas for improvement in efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality. Implement changes as needed to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
  • Quality Assurance: Establish and maintain rigorous quality control standards to ensure that food products meet regulatory requirements and customer expectations. Implement quality assurance programs, including inspections, testing, and compliance with food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, GMP).
  • Inventory Management: Oversee inventory levels of raw materials, packaging supplies, and finished goods to ensure adequate stock levels while minimizing excess inventory and waste.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules and repairs for production equipment to minimize downtime and ensure optimal performance. Implement maintenance best practices to prolong equipment lifespan and reduce production interruptions.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations and standards, including OSHA guidelines, and industry-specific safety protocols for food manufacturing facilities. Implement safety training programs and procedures to promote a safe working environment for employees.
  • Budget Management: Develop and manage the production budget, including forecasting expenses, tracking costs, and optimizing resource allocation to meet financial targets and operational goals.
  • Team Leadership: Provide leadership and direction to production staff, including supervisors, operators, and technicians. Foster a positive work culture, promote teamwork, and provide coaching and development opportunities to enhance employee skills and performance.
  • Supplier and Vendor Management: Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to procure raw materials, packaging supplies, and equipment necessary for production. Work with the procurement team to negotiate contracts, monitor supplier performance, and identify opportunities for cost savings and quality improvement.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about regulatory changes and updates affecting the food manufacturing industry. Ensure that production processes adhere to all relevant laws, regulations, and standards governing food safety, labeling, and environmental sustainability.
  • Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Kaizen to streamline processes, reduce waste, and optimize productivity.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of food safety regulations, manufacturing processes, and best practices.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Solid financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost management.
  • Ability to build and lead cross-functional teams in a collaborative culture.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in food science, engineering, operations management, or related field.
  • Minimum 5-10 years of progressive leadership experience in food manufacturing.

Work Environment:

Exposure to both the office setting and food manufacturing facility.

  • Significant amount of time working at a computer station.
  • Occasional visits to various areas of the manufacturing floor.
  • Must wear required PPE while in all manufacturing areas.
  • Moving parts and machinery are present in the plant.

Physical demands:

  • Frequent sitting, standing, or walking.
  • Occasional ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to physically perform functions of repetitive motion, grasping, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, crouching, kneeling, stooping, balancing, and climbing.
  • Noise levels will vary, higher noise levels exist while in the plant operations areas.
