This position is located at NASA - Johnson Space Center within the Mission Control Center (MCC) Houston Voice discipline. This position requires certification in both the on-console duties of Houston Comm Tech (HCT) and Houston Voice Controller (HVC). Primary responsibilities are exercised in an on-console environment through configuration, control, and monitoring of the Voice Processors (VoP) and Digital Voice Inter-communications Equipment (DVICE), Recording and playback of Mission Voice Recorders Equipment (MVRE), providing reliable voice communications between crew members, ground controllers, and supporting centers/agencies. The Houston Voice Controller ensures the operation and availability of the VoPs and DVICE systems during all simulations, testing, and flight phases. Console operations are conducted 24/7, 365 days/year. All Voice Controllers support a rotating schedule covering three shifts. Responsibilities: • Participate and contribute to MCC hardware and software requirements reviews and originates Review Item Dispositions (RIDs) to address voice system concerns. Originates Change Requests (CRs) against delivered systems to correct DVICE and VoP system inadequacies. • Participate and contribute to operational documentation reviews to include Local Operating Procedures (LOPs), Flight Controller Operations Handbook (FCOH), Integration Test Plans/Procedures and Flight Mission Rules. • Provide assistance and support to entry-level Voice Controllers during both on and off-console support. • Participate in scheduled mission simulations, conducts Voice system validation tests and portions/sequences of unique support counts designed to prepare Voice and Space-to-Ground system elements for simulations and testing readiness. • Coordinate and control the configuration and operation of DVICE between MCC-Houston, Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC), MCC-Moscow, Ground Network (GN), Space Network (SN), Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC), the Air Force Satellite Control Facility (AFSCF) and the JSC Mission Simulators during testing, simulations, and mission support. Includes direct communication with International and Commercial Partners JAXA, ESA, Moscow, ISA, CSA, AXIOM, SPACEX, and configuration control. • Monitor Space-to-Ground, Air-to-Ground, and voice circuits to ensure proper voice reception and transmission. Provide status to Operation Team members (OT) and Flight Control Team members. • Assist in identifying voice system problems and lead troubleshooting efforts until they are isolated and restored. Assist in post operations follow-up and follow through of systems problems that dictate changes to operational documentation. • Maintain detailed and accurate Voice Controller Console logs with attention to communication of information necessary for subsequent controller operation or detailed follow-up of problem isolation. • Communicate status of voice systems to the Senior Voice Controller, Flight Control Team and communicate potential problems and mission rules violations with recommend action(s) to the Ground Controller (GC). • Provide comprehensive end-of-shift Voice Controller status summaries to the MCC Ground Controller (GC) during mission support. • Participate in the OT training and orientation of new Houston Voice Controllers during the certification process. Qualifications • Bachelor Science degree plus 0-2 years of experience related to space flight operations, control center operations and/or ground or space network operations.
