Description

What is a Financial Analyst?

The Financial Analyst contributes to the success of 2-1-1 San Diego’s contracts and grants by participating in budget development, financial tracking, deliverable achievement, and compliance monitoring. The Financial Analyst communicates with leaders outside the Finance team to ensure they are aware of contract requirements and progress, and to partner with them on adjustments throughout the term to ensure 2-1-1 San Diego will be successful in meeting its’ contract goals. This position also provides depth to the Finance team by serving as a backup position to submit payroll and produce payroll-related reports.

Make a Difference through Action

  • 2-1-1 San Diego’s contracts and grants are successful at meeting their program and financial deliverables.
  • Monthly, review contract financial results versus budgets with various departmental leaders. Identify areas of necessary changes and work with those leaders to implement changes to support the success of the contracts.
  • Monitor the success of meeting contract deliverables and collaborate with executives, peers and others on areas in need of improvement as it pertains to contract deliverables.
  • Navigate the ways that various contracts can work together to fulfill our mission and comply with financial and contractual obligations.
  • Partner with Business Development department on creating budgets for new contract and grant opportunities.
  • Partner with Finance team on budget adjustments for existing contracts, as needed.
  • Provide support for the leadership team on staff time allocations; specifically identifying where actual allocations deviate from budgeted expectations, and helping department leaders understand their budgeted expected allocations.
  • Works with Controller to ensure that new contracts and grants are fully and accurately set up in financial software system.
  • Work with leadership across the Organization to add insight on contracts, budgets and funding gaps in order to add to the development and improvement of programs within the Organization in a fiscally sound manner. 
  • Assists with annual financial audit requirements and individual contract compliance reviews as they occur.

Finance staff receive support on payroll-related and invoicing tasks.

  • Serve as the backup person to prepare and submit payroll as needed.
  • Assist in reviewing timecards and supporting leadership with timecard allocations and contract assignments in the payroll system.
  • Provides detailed payroll reports to assist with calculating expenses for the monthly contract invoicing process.
  • Provides assistance to Contracts Manager by providing expense allocations.
  • Provides backup documentation from the payroll system to satisfy funder requirements for invoicing or reviews.
  • Protects the security of all confidential employee information that is accessed, and ensures sensitive financial information is controlled.

You'll Be a Great Fit, If: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher preferred; combination of relevant college course work and equivalent work experience may be substituted. Coursework in business management, Finance, project management, communications, or psychology is helpful. 
  • Three or more years’ experience in financial management work preferred; experience with fund accounting, budgets, nonprofit accounting, or financial reporting is beneficial.
  • Prior experience using NetSuite is strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience processing payroll is preferred.
  • Superior analytical, critical thinking, and verbal & written communication skills are required. 
  • Must have the ability to build and maintain positive & supportive working relationships with internal & external contacts. 
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, including SharePoint, Outlook, Excel, and Word is required. Proficiency in financial software (especially NetSuite) and web-based payroll software (especially Paylocity) is highly desirable. 
  • Bilingual Spanish preferred.

Other Details

Status: Exempt, Full-Time

Department: Admin/Finance 

Reports To: CFO

Work Schedule: Typical schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. However, flexibility is required due to the nature of business. The schedule may be changed as needed, to include weekends and holidays. Required to be responsive and available for shifts for as much as 12 hours in length during declared emergencies to perform duties as directed by the Emergency Manager.

Physical Requirements:

· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

· Repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
