Alliance for Leading and Learning (ALL) Professional Mentor 

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should have a four-year degree from an accredited institution with NC Certification in Professional School Counseling or School Social Work and have 5 years of experience as a Professional School Counselor or School Social Worker.

REPORTS TO: Mental Health Professional Clinical Coordinator 

JOB GOAL: To provide current Alliance for Leading and Learning Interns and 1st year Student Services professionals with the guidance and support needed to succeed in their role as Student Services Professionals. Knowledge of the content required by the profession and the ability to facilitate learning opportunities that reflect the intern’s and/or new employees’ current job position.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Professional Mentor will demonstrate value in aiding the career progression of the graduate student or new employee by advising, assisting, and supporting the professional growth of the employee by:

  • Assist the Coordinator with the recruitment efforts for the program. The recruitment process consists of community outreach, assisting with screening, and interviewing applicants for the program.
  • Meet with interns and new student services employees regularly to discuss their career goals, provide training, and address any challenges they may be facing.
  • Develop training that is tailored to the individual needs of each intern or new student services employee.
  • Facilitate and encourage participation in workshops, seminars, and events to assist interns and new student services employees to expand their knowledge, skills, and abilities by improving their professional skills.
  • Assist new employees in engaging site Leadership, to understand and establish shared ownership of the vision and purpose of work at the school level.
  • Support and encourage a nurturing environment for interns to learn and grow by creating rapport with the Task Supervisor and being available to assist if the need arises.
  • Encourages new employees to reach their full potential and develop their professional skills.
  • Provides guidance to interns and new student services employees on the development of professional skills and growth opportunities by assessing the professional strengths and weaknesses providing opportunities for growth
  • Maintains documentation and data on intern and new employee performance and growth.
  • Support interns and new student services personnel to partner with school staff and administrators to ensure student academic success by aligning their direct service with the common core, essential standards, and 21st-century content which includes: global awareness, financial, economic, business, entrepreneurial literacy, civic literacy, and health awareness.
  • Demonstrates ethical principles including honesty, integrity, fair treatment, and respect for others. (NASW Code of Ethics, ASCA Code of Ethics, & Standards of Professional Conduct for NC Educators)
  • Serves as a team player and role model for other employees in the organization; demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement; supports and exhibits organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, being customer-driven, and valuing diversity.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.

Must have finger dexterity and be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must possess a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
