The Archbishop, visible principle of unity in his archdiocese, is called to build up the particular Church unceasingly in the communion of all its members, and to ensure that their diverse gifts and ministries, in union with the universal Church, serve to build up all the faithful and to spread the Gospel. (Apostolorum Successores 8). He must take care that all the affairs which belong to the administration of the whole archdiocese are duly coordinated and are ordered to attain more suitably the good of the portion of the people of God entrusted to him.” (Apostolorum Successores 177).

Each position employed in the Chancery helps to extend the ministry of the Archbishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF ROLE

This position oversees the Archdiocesan property and liability program, which covers over $4B in asset value and 9,000 employees. The program includes the central office, all parishes and schools, Associated Catholic Cemeteries, Catholic Community Services (CCS) and Catholic Housing Services (CHS), and Fulcrum Foundation.

In addition to the administration of the insurance and worker’s compensation programs, which have a significant impact on the financial statements of the Archdiocese and each individual entity, this position directly liaises with all internal and external teams that support the programs. This position allows for hybrid (onsite/offsite) work and limited travel.

ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES:

• Oversight for the Archdiocesan Property and Liability insurance program, which includes Catholic Community Services and Catholic Housing Services, central offices, and the parishes and schools of the Archdiocese;
• Works with our insurance partners on coverage, premiums, claim management, renewals, and billings;
• Direct support of stakeholders with insurance-related issues;
• Identifies and implements recommendations for effective enterprise-wide risk management processes and controls;
• Oversees regulatory compliance, fraud/loss prevention, disputes, and business continuity programs;
• Partners with HR, Legal, and other Finance groups to establish mitigating controls to identified risks;
• Delivers management reporting on the overall insurance program;
• Maintains website materials, best practices, training, and support for our insurance program and acts as the liaison for stakeholders;

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Primary:

• Willingness and ability to support the mission of the Catholic Church in Western Washington;
• Experience with developing and applying risk management best practices;
• Legal/paralegal training, or related experience;
• Required proficiency with MS Office, in particular advanced MS Excel abilities, and other software packages;
• 5 or more years demonstrated successful experience in program and stakeholder management;
• Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to look at big picture but still track details; and
• Demonstrated strong judgment in high risk or time sensitive situations.

Preferred:

• Excellent interpersonal and public relations skills;
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills ;
• Ability to plan effectively manage plans and programs under time constraints;
• Ability to perform calculations and analysis with some financial/accounting related data and information; and
• Ability to maintain high standards of confidentiality.

Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
