You will be expected to adhere to state licensing rules. This includes annual training requirements, CPR certification, a criminal background check, and others. We also expect all of our staff to work towards qualification as a “Lead Caregiver”.
A Child’s Place has been providing care for children in northwest Ann Arbor for more than 10 years. Our founder is Pam Gee, a Montessori trained early childhood professional with more than 40 years of experience. You can read about our philosophy on our website at http://www.AChildsPlaceA2.com. We are a small center (30 children max). Every caregiver knows every child and every child knows every caregiver. That means we are able to be very flexible - and that we expect you to be also.
There are three essential things you must bring to the job. We will train you on anything else you need to know. The three things are:
Love the children
Show up
Communicate
Beyond these three, there are additional qualifications that we value. Compensation may be increased based on experience and/or credentials. These include things like:
An early childhood education degree or coursework in early childhood education
CDA
Experience caring for young children in a child-care setting
Willingness to be on a “sub” list and take on extra shifts or extra hours when called
We prefer this to be a full-time position (40 hours per week), but we can discuss part-time schedules. Since we are open from 7am to 6pm, your shift will either start early or end late, but not both. You will need to be flexible and adaptable - every day brings new challenges (people get sick, it rains, somebody is having a tough morning, etc.) and the children need us to be their stability.
Compensation starts at $16 per hour for someone with not very much experience but with lots of energy. People with more experience, more credentials, or both can expect more. The economics of child care are hard - parents struggle to pay and caregivers don’t get what they deserve - but at A Child’s Place we work very hard to pay well above the industry median. We also offer two weeks of paid vacation time, two weeks of paid sick time, and four paid training days per year.
