JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION:  KMS Athletic Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS:

BA in related field preferred

Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: strong leadership ability to work as part of an administrative team; promoting and supporting student activities; problem-solving skills to support student success; service-related people skills; verbal and written communication skills; organizational skills and technology competency in the areas of office software.

Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: Title IX, National Federation of High School rules pertinent district policies; bookkeeping principle (gatekeeping and raffles), budgeting, and concepts of management and supervision. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; conflict resolution; maintaining confidentiality; setting priorities; working as part of a team; working with frequent interruptions; creating a positive school climate for students, staff and community; motivating students and staff; resourcefulness; multi-tasking; and adapting to changing and competing work priorities. Flexibility is required to schedule a significant number of activities, meetings, and/or events.

REPORTS TO:  KMS Principal

JOB GOAL: Under the direction of the principal, and in cooperation with the staff of the school, plans, coordinates, implements, monitors and evaluates the athletic program at the middle school level in conformance with the school and district policies and procedures.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Foster an athletic program that meets the expectations for athletic participation inherent in the middle school philosophy.
  • Assure adherence of KMS by-laws and protocols by athletes, coaches, parents, staff and officials.
  • Represent the school at district and divisional
  • Collaborate with the elementary schools and high school to ensure cohesive athletic programs district wide.
  • Manage the space availability of the school’s gym and fields for school and community relates sports and events.
  • Initiate each sports season through athlete sign up and eligibility.
  • Hire, support, mentor and evaluate all coaches.
  • Communicate with parents and athletes through multiple channels, such as but not limited to seasonal parents meetings, email and social media.
  • Foster a resolution management system where issues and concerns are brought forward in the following manner: Coach, Athletic Coordinator, Principal.
  • Supervise and manage sports events at home.
  • Coordinate the infrastructure of the athletic program through scheduling, assigning of officials and game workers for interscholastic games for all sport contests.
  • Coordinating bus transportation with the Office of Transportation.
  • Monitor and evaluate the state of the athletic program through multiple avenues such as but not limited to parent and athlete surveys.
  • Monitor, inventory and manage all athletic equipment including medical kits.
  • Communicate concerns and needs relating to infrastructure and/or equipment that needs repair and/or replacement.
  • Create and submit budget requests to support the athletic program.
  • Other responsibilities as may be assigned by the KMS principal.

MAINTENANCE PROVIDER RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Kennett Middle School Athletic Facilitator shall be responsible for the appropriate preparation and equipping of out-door surfaces for all scheduled interscholastic and intramural games/contests that include two (2) soccer fields, two (2) field hockey field, one (1) football field, one (1) practice football field, two (2) baseball fields, and two (2) softball fields. The provider shall:

  • Rotate daily responsibilities for the appropriate preparation for field play among the four outside playing fields;
  • Assure that all outside fields are appropriately lined and in compliance with current rules governing play; and,
  • Communicate to KMS Principal any concerns relative to playing surfaces and equipment that are in need of repair, replacement, etc.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a stipend position for a total salary of $16,250 annually.

WORK YEAR: Year round as needed.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Kennett Middle School Principal.
