Position Title: Policy Outreach Associate/Government Affairs Associate
Reports to: Senior Corporate Relations Manager, EJM Associates
Position Status: Fulltime, exempt
Salary and BenefitsThe salary range for this position is between $75,000 and $85,000 dependent upon candidate skillset and experience. EJM offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, vision, and dental insurance, 401k with a 5% match; and a pre-tax Flexible Savings Account, Health Savings Account, and parking and metro benefits. We have generous paid time off, plus all federal holidays and the week between December 25 and January 1.
EJM Associates LLC (EJM) is a strategic consulting firm founded and directly managed by former Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz. We help clients navigate the transition to a global clean energy economy by advising on a range of energy policy, innovation, and security issues.
The EFI Foundation (EFIF) is a Washington-based registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to harnessing the power of technology and policy innovation to accelerate the clean energy transition. EFIF conducts objective, fact-based, and rigorous analysis supported by a multidisciplinary network of experts. EFIF and EJM Associates participate in a shared services agreement and, pursuant to the agreement, employees of EJM may perform professional services for EFIF consistent with their job description.
EJM and EFIF were founded by Ernest Moniz, who served as the thirteenth United States Secretary of Energy (2013-2017) during the Obama Administration, together with Joe Hezir, former DOE CFO, and Melanie Kenderdine, former Director of DOE’s Office of Energy Policy and Systems Analysis (and now New Mexico Secretary of Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources).
SummaryEJM is seeking an associate to serve as our team’s liaison with federal agencies, Congressional offices and staff, and other government offices and personnel. The preferred candidate will be an organized and enthusiastic person with experience on Capitol Hill, the Department of Energy, and/or other federal offices.
In this role, the associate will meet regularly with congressional staffers, other federal policy makers, state and local policy makers, and business executives to gather information, identify policy trends and priorities, and make recommendations on government engagement. The associate will support the Senior Corporate Relations Manager across EJM’s client portfolio, which spans various sectors but typically includes energy companies and technology providers. The associate will work closely with the Senior Corporate Relations Manager and EJM’s principals to deliver on client services. This position offers the opportunity to work on some of the timeliest decarbonization issues, collaborate with senior industry leaders, and inform corporate strategy.
EJM and EFIF operate on a hybrid schedule, with employees reporting in-office on certain days of the week. Supervisors approve further remote flexibility on a case-by-case basis.
Responsibilities Include

  • Monitor and track policy developments at the federal and state level. Areas of interest include but are not limited to: renewable energy, the electricity sector and load growth, industrial decarbonization, clean fuels, and carbon management (mainly CDR, CCUS, carbon transport and storage).
  • Create and maintain stakeholder maps and contact lists (U.S. policy makers and their staff, executives, and other thought leaders).
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Lead or participate in briefings for congressional offices and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Participate in client and prospective client meetings.
  • Lead/contribute to the production of client deliverables, such as reports, memos, presentations, and stakeholder maps.
  • Conduct policy research and analysis. Summarize key findings in written reports and verbal communications to EJM leadership and clients.
  • Present EFIF’s analytical work; prepare and distribute fact sheets and one-page leave behinds
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional experience on Capitol Hill or at a federal agency.
  • Knowledge of the U.S. political process and legislative calendars.
  • Proven experience and interest in energy and/or climate policy. Experience with energy policy and technological innovation issues preferred but not necessarily required; interest in these issues is a must.
  • Strong in interpersonal relations; ability to establish and maintain relationships outside the immediate work unit.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including in communication of complex and highly technical information
  • Familiarity with Excel and CRMs
  • Confidence in handling confidential information.
  • U.S. citizenship or authorization to reside and work in the United States.
EJM and EFIF are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyways. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
TO APPLY

  • Writing sample (preferably on an energy topic)
  • Finalists will be required to provide two personal references
