Line Cook

A Spice of Life is looking for a Line Cook to join our team. You will work in a spacious kitchen with great chefs. If you love great food, great service and want to work with the best people in hospitality, please join our team!

BASIC FUNCTION :

Help coordinate, plan, and execute the production, preparation and presentation of food for A Spice of Life in a safe sanitary work environment that conforms to all standards and regulations and achieves profitable, competitive, and quality products.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

1. Execute food preparation using various methods of cooking

2. Ability to follow recipes, portion control and meet presentation specifications in a timely manner

3. Proper use of all equipment in station area

4. Skill in following directions in a fast-paced environment

5. Assist with cleaning, sanitation and organization of kitchen, walk-in coolers, and storage areas

6. Complete other unspecified duties as assigned in a timely manner

SKILLS & ABILITIES :

Knowledge of weights, measures and portion control is required. The ability to follow recipes, dice, chop, slice, mix, batter, and bake are necessary.

Knowledge of knives and machinery is needed.

Knowledge of portion control, cutting, and trimming of meat and seafood is also required.

Good organization and leadership qualities are necessary. Expediting skills are needed to put food out in a timely manner.

Experience : Food prep experience.

Specific Knowledge : Background in the hospitality industry a plus.

Complexity of Duties : Must be professional and courteous at all times with clients and peers.

A basic knowledge of food and the food service industry is desired. Must be organized, process oriented, and always looking for ways to improve efficiency and quality.

Written and Oral Communications : Excellent written and oral skills necessary within all levels of the company as well as outside customers, vendors, etc.

Interpersonal Skills : Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and positively with a wide range of personalities both within the company and outside.

Must maintain a calm and professional demeanor under pressure.

Decision Making : Must be able to assess options and convey opinions effectively. Must be sensitive to the goals of the company.

Must be able to set priorities for efficient, precise, and prompt service for Café customers.

Physical Demands : Constantly moves about to coordinate work for / with kitchen staff anywhere from 6-8 hours a day. Will be expected to lift up to 50 pounds.

Must be able to hear with 100% accuracy with correction. Must be able to see 20 / 20 vision with correction.

COMPENSATION :

Flat hourly rate, based on experience can range from $19-$21 / hr.
