AAK is Hiring an Instrument/Controls Engineer Near Louisville, KY

The Instrumentation and Controls Engineer is involved with the successful daily operation of oil refining facility and the modification and alteration of the plant automated controls and power systems (to 480VAC) to accommodate business needs and high plant availability. This requires close collaboration with other employees and the maintenance manager to assure safe work and to set or re-set job priorities. There are no formal reports for this position with the exception of work documentation as required to document changes in plant physical or logic changes and documentation to meet our goals of safety first, quality work and compliance with our customers’ requirements and concerns.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (to include but not limited to):
Safety & Environmental Performance
Lead the safety effort by personal example.
Support full plant wide compliance with safety rules to further our goal of accidents and encouragement of reporting and correcting near misses.
Support contractor accidents during major construction or anytime maintenance contractors are on site.
Identify high-risk safety/ productivity issues and help remedy them.
Adhere to SOPs and other work procedures as required to assure product quality and consistency to our customers.
Work Requirements:
Install, maintain, troubleshoot, temperature/ pressure and flow devices both field indicators and sending devices to PLCs.
Program PLC logic for process changes and improvements.
Install, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical distribution and protection circuits up to 480VAC.
Document all work using CDs, P&Ids, logic prints.
Execute work in a safe and expedient manner according to the following priorities:
Emergency corrective maintenance daily and call-ins
Execution of capital and maintenance projects.
Audit preventive/ predictive maintenance
Routine corrective maintenance
Provide practical solutions to operations/ controls problems.
Scope, estimate and execute small capital / maintenance projects along with maintenance manager/ project director/ operations, etc.
Train other employees in light of their needs and company needs.
Oversee the work by contractors as required on site to assure safe and quality performance.
Look for opportunities to help work get done safer, faster and more cost effective.
Participate in company activities such as; Safety Committee, Audit committees, employee task forces, etc.
Cost Control
Contribute to the effort in controlling costs and minimizing wastage in pursuit of your daily work.
Support goal of minimum part sparing consistent with production goals and local vendor sport services.
Work to support cost reduction and improved efficiencies in all departments.
An Instrumentation/Controls Engineer is required to carry out all the above duties and is also responsible for the following activities:-
Participate in projects development and project meetings.
Substitute for the Maintenance Manager in his absence at meetings regarding processing and control issues.
Specifying new technologies and run trials to prove effectiveness.
Assist in the planning and direction of strategic improvements to keep plant process controls up to date using current best practice and latest technologies.
Develop and maintain the site calibration system.
Training of the Instrument Technicians as needed to meet the company needs.
