Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to be a technical expert for a specific product or system or its components. Each day, you will act as the primary contact in Research and Development (R&D) for (market-facing) Product Management and will support them on product-related issues. You will also showcase your expertise by driving the technical direction of development (e.g. acting as product owner in an agile team) and by organizing product maintenance.

This role is contributing to the Motion System Drives Division in New Berlin, WI. area.
You will be mainly accountable for:
*Facilitate and/or provide technical support via phone & email for common problems related to the wind converter application of LV (Low Voltage) and MV (Medium Voltage) Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and generators installed in onshore wind turbines. This includes but isn't limited to assisting customers and field techs with commissioning, troubleshooting, and warranty evaluations.
*Lead technical investigation of issues within the wind application of ABB Converters and Generators, coordinating the local and global support team for the customer to track issues to resolution.
*Analyze problems and initiate effective measures for their solution. Coordinate activities with related groups to most efficiently achieve objectives to ensure customer satisfaction. Participate proactively in contributing feedback to the Quality department regarding product quality issues.
*Provide technical project support for large scale repower projects, technical issue tracking, working alongside the customer to troubleshoot and diagnose issues within the different configuration of wind converter systems; and maintain technical competence in troubleshooting and repair of Wind Converters and Generators; follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations and maintain departmental housekeeping standards.

Qualifications for the role

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred) and 10 years' experience in the wind converter application of Low Voltage Drives and Medium Voltage Drives required.
  • Exceptional technical application and technical communication skills.
  • Experience in the drives commissioning and failure analysis is critical for success in this role.
  • Knowledge of SAP/BOL/Salesforce is beneficial.
  • Travel up to 20% required
  • Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
