Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School seeks an experienced, collaborative, and energetic teacher to join the district for a position asthe Middle School Music/ Chorus Teacher. Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School (AKFCS) provides an education to 1426 studentsin grades kindergarten through twelve, comprising an Elementary, Middle and High School. Support the mission of Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School is to assist parents in their role as primary educators of theirchildren by providing a classical liberal arts education grounded in the great works of Western Civilization and aimed at academicexcellence, musical competence, and character formation.The ideal candidate will play a vital role by providing instruction and guidance in Musical and Chorus activities. This position involvescreating a safe and inclusive learning environment, developing lesson plans, teaching various activities and assessing studentperformance.Responsibilities: Model the mission and character virtues of the school.
Demonstrate knowledge of subject areas. Guide the learning process toward the achievement of school curriculum goals. Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and communicate these objectives to students. Plan instruction based upon explicit goals regarding what students should know and be able to do.
Create or provide learning experiences that develop students abilities and require the application of thinking skills. Employ a variety of instructional strategies that consider individual learning styles and performance levels. Organize instruction around essential questions or objectives; teach for understanding and/or mastery; provide students withpractice and extension opportunities as needed. Assess student learning on a regular basis using multiple forms of assessment; analyze data and provide reports of studentprogress as needed.
Use assessment data to inform instruction. Create a classroom learning environment that is engaging, orderly, secure and appealing for students and in which mutual respectis shown. Carry out the schools disciplinary code and procedures in a fair and just manner. Give assignments that reinforce classroom instruction.
Communicate student progress and development to parents, involving families in the education of their child. Provide written assessments, referrals and evaluations when necessary for students with special needs. Participate in IEPmeetings. Participate in professional growth opportunities.
Model learning and behavior consistent with the expectations for students. Attend staff /team/department meetings and serve on staff committees as necessary. Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct. Collaborate with colleagues to improve curriculum and instructional effectiveness for all students.
Meet stated guidelines for all reporting, including, lesson plans, teacher goals and binder, and assessment data. Coordinate the Band meeting dates and times and advertise those for members. Plan and schedule performances in collaboration with the building Principal. Coordinate and assemble materials needed for the efficient operations of the Band Oversee the Students participation in band activities Coordinate rehearsal times.
Schedule the appropriate space for any Music/Band production. Coordinate with necessary parties for advertisements, programs and tickets. Supervise all activities on school property or in the community. Ensure that permission slips are signed and returned for all participation outside of school.
Communicate with administration as to the progress of musical plans and/or activitiesMust possess the ability to: Administer and exemplify the mission of the school. At all times, maintain conduct in a professional manner. Build positive relationships with students in support of their academic and social development. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units,projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students. Employ instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for meeting stated objectives. Assess the accomplishments of the students on a regular basis and provide timely progress reports.Qualifications: Current authorization to work in the United States. Hold a Bachelor Degree.
Hold the appropriate valid Massachusetts Teaching License in the required subject matter at the appropriategrade level.Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching in urban schools is preferred SEI EndorsementCompensation: Full Time Exempt Salary Position in accordance with the established Teachers Salary Scale. Specific activities may generate dust and/or non toxic fumes.Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to talk and hear, write, use their hands and fingers,manipulate keys on a keyboard, walk, stand, travel from one area/building to another, stoop, reach, and kneel. Specific vision abilitiesrequired by this job include close and distance vision.
