This is a 12 month Fixed Term Contract and is based in Edinburgh. About the Department The Finance function is led by the Chief Financial Officer and comprises four specialist, centralised teams, and three vector-focused commercial teams, supported by a small CFO Office to run the function. Group Finance Control – responsible for all external reporting activity (group, statutory and regulatory) with the goal to produce high quality reporting materials, on time and reflective of best practice. Oversight and development of the Finance control environment also sits here, together with the management of the relationship with external audit and the Audit Committee. Finance Operations – responsible for all processing and production activity is centralised here, largely on an outsourced basis. The goal is to combine maximum efficiency and increasing automation with robust controls. All P&L, balance sheet and ledger control activity, including outsourced oversight, is brought together here. Capital and Tax – responsible for running all capital and tax matters centrally for the whole group, as a global, specialist function. Performance and Planning – responsible for all performance and planning activities centrally for the group, including coordination of planning, forecasting, quarterly business reviews and investor relations. Segment CFO teams – are responsible for supporting segment CEOs and CFOs by driving the commercial agenda of the business and rely on the other areas to produce core materials. About the Role Month end reporting – Verification and succinct articulation of the consolidated messages for the UK reporting function to provide valuable business insight. This will involve monitoring the close process, early identification of issues and reviewing and challenging financial data and commentary provided by the financial controllers. Quarter end reporting – Coordinating all board, regulatory and group reporting deliverables and challenging the data and commentary included within. This will also involve communicating key messages. Year end reporting – Plan the year end reporting timetable including the completion of group, statutory, board and regulatory deliverables. This will involve effective communication of key achievements across the function for agreement and ensuring these are met. Technical resolution – Lead on key accounting and regulatory technical matters for presentation and agreement with the Head of UK Financial Reporting & Control. Processes & control – Continuous review of the control environment and critical business processes to ensure these continue to be effective and well understood. Ongoing challenge is expected to ensure the control environment and key processes continue to deliver efficiencies and value across the function. Engagement – Take responsibility for building collaborative relationships with peers across the finance function and wider business divisions to deliver business insight and contribute to a best in class finance function. About the Candidate Requirements Experienced qualified accountant. Asset management experience preferable but not essential. IFRS technical and regulatory reporting knowledge. Takes personal accountability for high quality outputs and timely delivery. Self-starter who is willing to learn and take on new challenges. Commercial acumen and ability to challenge trends and form expectations. Effective leadership across a variety of business as usual and project initiatives. Credibility with stakeholders (Relationships, communication and confidence). Ability to work effectively as part of a team to inspire, share and listen to ideas. Organisational skills with an ability to prioritise work and manage expectations. Problem solver who is willing to challenge and deliver value adding outcomes.
