Abode Property Management is Hiring a Resident Liaison/Driver Near Redwood, CA

Abode, one of the largest and effective nonprofits working to end homelessness in the Bay Area, is seeking a Resident Liaison/Driverfor our Canyon Vista site in Redwood City, CA.

About The Role: Under the direction of the Property Manager, the Resident Liaison/Driver is responsible for facilitating close working relationships and transporting residents of a 57-unit transitional and permanent supportive housing property. The property has a behavioral health focus for individuals with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders and other related experiences. The Resident Liaison/Driver must relate well to people, must exercise good judgment in dealing with residents, staff, visitors, and vendors, and provide leadership and regular opportunities for celebrations, socialization, and community building.

How You Make An Impact:

  • Establish linkages with all agencies and service providers in the community.
  • Collaborate with service providers and activity leaders on the first floor of the building to facilitate resident involvement with first floor and outdoor activities. Develop collaborative relationships with other local service providers and community agencies. Maintain a positive relationship with the surrounding neighborhood.
  • Setting up a directory of providers and local shopping resources for use by residents.
  • Educate residents from a property management perspective on the Supportive Housing providers availability, orientation of the lease, house rules, referring residents to the Supportive Housing provider, etc.
  • Serve as a liaison between Property Management and Service Provider (and other community partners) as well as the police department, etc.
  • Conference with collaborative participating jurisdictions like Behavioral Health and the police department from an Abode and overall resident advocacy standpoint.
  • Plans and brainstorms resident transportation events and schedule based upon input and interests of the resident community.
  • Provide private transport using company-provided community van to various locations, including errands, activities, appointments, and community events. Develop a community calendar of errands, activities, and events related to Resident Liaison/Driver role.
  • Arrive at destinations on schedule and research and plan for traffic and weather delays while using navigation applications to determine best route.
  • Ensure the vehicle is always fueled, regularly inspected, and ready for use.
  • In collaboration with administrators, follow the vehicle policies and procedures and ensure recurring inspections, mileage records recorded, and vehicle is always in good repair.
  • Convene and co-facilitate with the Supportive Housing provider a Resident Council and Subcommittee as planned by the Council.
  • Co-facilitate weekly resident review meetings in partnership with the Supportive Housing provider.
  • Provide crisis intervention as needed and when requested by property management and/or program participants.
  • Collaborate with the Service Provider in creating an environment that fosters a sense of ownership for residents and builds community.
  • Maintain and secure case notes and prepare and submit all programmatic reports as required.
  • Provide referrals for further assessment/treatment services to the Service Provider for any areas of concern and exposure.

Other Related Tasks

  • Treat all residents/staff/vendors/visitors to the community with respect and courtesy and treat all the residents in a non-discriminatory manner.
  • Work as a team member with other site staff so that all function as a team and are cooperative with each other, the residents, and visitors to the community.
  • Recommend measures to improve the fiscal performance as the Resident Liaison/Driver to better serve the residents and/or preserve resident activities and programming.
  • Attend staff meetings, required trainings, and other housing retention related coordination meetings as required.
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of the nature of this position.

How You Meet Qualifications:

The minimum qualifications for the position are as follows:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • A minimum of 2 years of progressively increasing human services, social work, and/or supportive housing or equivalent education and experience.
  • 1 year of experience providing services to homeless or low-income households.
  • Available to work a minimum of 40 hours per week plus overtime as needed. Work flexible hours, including some weekends and evenings when required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills; integrity; respect for confidentiality; ability to work with diverse populations, including persons with various disabilities.
  • A valid California driver’s license, proof of current insurance meeting or exceeding state requirements and vehicle registration, clean (less than 4 points) DMV record and reliable transportation.
  • Driving and transportation of participants when required.
  • Ability to speak, read and write fluent English.
  • Ability to analyze and prioritize complex situations, policies and procedures, laws and regulations and exercise good judgment in the course of completing required duties.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
  • Proficient computer skills in using the internet, email, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Able to negotiate stairs independently in properties with 2 to 4 stories and no elevator and be able to walk at least 400 feet over rough terrain for property site inspections.
  • Able to lift, carry or push items weighing less than 15 pounds on a regular basis (such as resident files, small equipment, or supplies).

OTHER DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Knowledge of fair housing and tenant related laws.
  • Ability to speak, read and write a second language such as Spanish, Vietnamese, Tagalog or Chinese.
