Position DescriptionThe Metal Finisher II will play a vital role in the production process by finishing metal components to meet quality standards and specifications. Building on their experience and expertise in metal finishing, the job involves managing plating operations, ensuring compliance with quality standards, and driving continuous improvement. They are responsible for executing plating processes to enhance the surface quality, appearance, and corrosion resistance of metal components. By following processes, it will ensure the production of high-quality finished products that meet customer specifications and industry standards.
Competencies
  • Leadership qualities with the ability to effectively train, mentor, and supervise junior personnel
  • Read and follow work orders and engineering drawings.
  • Monitor plating parameters, such as temperature.
  • Advanced knowledge of processes for sheet metal/CNC machined products such as Passivation, Magnesium Phosphate, and Chromate processes.
  • Established knowledge in racking, un-racking, drying, wrapping, and packaging sheet metal/CNC machined parts.
Essential Functions
  • Provide guidance and training to Metal Finisher I personnel to optimize plating processes and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to implement process enhancements, equipment upgrades and workflow optimizations.
  • Performs preparation, pre-cleaning, and processing of parts per work orders or instructions on the Passivation, Magnesium, Phospate and Chromate lines.
  • Apply plating solutions and chemicals to specifications to achieve the desired plating thickness, coverage, and finish.
  • Identify and address any non-conformities or quality issues and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain plating equipment and tanks in good working condition by performing cleaning, and calibration activities.
  • Handle plating chemicals, solutions, and waste materials in accordance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow proper safety precautions when working with hazardous materials and equipment.
  • Complete production logs, batch records, and inspection reports to track process performance and product traceability. After documenting, route parts to the next department.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions, process deviations, and other operational issues to minimize downtime and ensure continuous production.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.

Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills)
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Several years of experience in metal plating operations, with demonstrated proficiency in electroplating, immersion plating, and other plating techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality orientation.
  • Must be familiar with quality standards (ISO9001/AS9100).
  • Able to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Essential Physical Requirements
  • Rack and bin a variety of sheet metal/CNC machined products that can weigh up to 50 pounds.
  • Prolonged periods of standing and performing repetitive tasks.
  • Must have excellent hand-eye coordination.
  • Be able to bend and stretch to move parts through the processes.
Other Physical Requirements
  • This is a designated safety-sensitive position.
