Job Description

Position Overview: The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing all finance functions within the district. This includes ensuring the accurate management of salaries, benefits, and stipends, as well as compliance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Finance Supervision: Develop, implement, and supervise procedures for financial processing to ensure accuracy and compliance.

• Budget Management: Prepare revenue and expenditure projections and participate in budget preparation and analysis.

• Financial Reporting: Prepare and analyze monthly and annual financial reports, including interim and final budget reports.

• Audit and Compliance: Manage audit processes, ensure compliance with financial regulations, and prepare formal responses to audit findings.

• Collaboration: Work closely with Human Resources to ensure the accuracy of employment and payroll data and respond to financial inquiries from employees and administrators.

• Training and Workshops: Provide training and workshops to grant stakeholders on efficient grant management.

• Tax Administration: Oversee tax collection, manage delinquent taxes, and ensure timely transfer and reconciliation of funds from taxing authorities.

• Grant Management: Administer post-award grant accounting, ensuring compliance with funding guidelines and timely receipt of revenues.

• Special Projects: Manage special accounting projects, prepare materials for union negotiations, and support the financial oversight panel as needed.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in public or business administration, MBA, Educational Administration, or related field preferred.

• Experience in public or private accounting, particularly with federal grants.

• Knowledge of school finance and accounting procedures.

• Experience with budget preparation and financial analysis.

• CPA license preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

• Accounting and payroll practices.

• TRS and IMRF retirement system requirements.

• Federal regulations related to grants management (e.g., A-133 and A-87).

Skills and Abilities:

• Proficient in computer accounting systems and fund accounting.

• Strong human relations, communication, and organizational skills.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community.

• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written forms.

• Ability to manage and supervise a team effectively.

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to generate and implement solutions.

• Proficiency with productivity-based applications, including spreadsheets, word processing, and databases.
