Job Title: Cost Accountant

Location: Troy, AL (On-Site)

Summary/Objective:

The Cost Accountant will oversee the management of the company's cost accounting systems and processes, including analyzing cost of goods sold, job/inventory costing projects, margin analysis, and cost tracing. This role involves developing and maintaining data accumulation systems for reporting to management. This position will report to the Compliance Manager.

Job Responsibilities:

Product Costs:

  • Analyze and monitor product costs.
  • Report on production variances compared to standard cost and margins by product group.
  • Enforce company policy on recording scrap and wastage.
  • Collaborate with engineering and product management for accurate cost estimates, particularly for new products.
  • Evaluate cost procedures and propose improvements.

Inventory Control:

  • Generate accurate inventory evaluation reports based on perpetual records.
  • Assist in developing key ratios for monitoring.
  • Conduct cycle counts to identify variances and resolve issues.
  • Coordinate physical inventory counts and cycle counts with the Inventory Manager.
  • Participate in inventory cycle counts and spot checks, coordinating with Inventory and Compliance departments.
  • Manage the cost of goods sold during month-end close, applying overhead costs as per accounting principles.
  • Collaborate with Inventory Control to identify and dispose of obsolete inventory.
  • Support annual onsite inventory audits.
  • Contribute to the company's 'lean' production goals.
  • Assist in Import/Export documentation alongside Receiving/Shipping and Compliance teams.

General Accounting:

  • Support the Controller in annual budget preparation.
  • Provide cost information for operating budget preparation.
  • Assist the Controller in month-end and year-end financial activities, including journal entries, account reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Prepare quarterly excise tax returns.
  • Undertake additional tasks as required by the Company.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience in Cost/Job Costing within a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Cost Accounting Standards.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with various departments.
  • Proficiency in data gathering, analysis, and adaptation for efficiency.
  • Strong research, analysis, and interpretation skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal communication, and collaboration skills.
  • High proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong organizational and detail-oriented skills.
  • Familiarity with INFOR VISUAL ERP software is advantageous.
  • Experience in ERP implementation or reimplementation is advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to travel to Kimber locations for company business.
  • 3 to 5 years of Cost Costing experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Accounting Degree or equivalent experience
