Job Summary:The Retention Specialist is responsible for reviewing policies and rewriting them as needed, tracking premium increases, and determining if they can be lowered, and rounding out accounts for Personal Lines. Additionally, the Retention Specialist will aid clients with service needs and make changes to existing accounts as required. The role requires meeting retention targets, service delivery standards, and performing essential functions to the quality and service standards developed by the agency.
Responsibilities:Retention:
  • Remarkets renewals, contacts clients, creates renewal proposals and handles other renewal activities.
  • Renews policies following agency standards. Verifies each renewal's accuracy; ensures that all renewals are produced.
  • Reviews audits of policies; verifies accuracy and facilitates corrections, as needed, between client and carrier.
  • Maintains and updates electronic and client activity files.
  • Verifies policy and policy change information, facilitating corrections when necessary.
  • Processes incoming mail requests, responding promptly and appropriately.
  • Verifies accuracy of all direct billed cancellations and takes appropriate corrective action when needed.
  • Uses agency credit and collection policy in invoicing and pursuing prompt payments, requests cancellations from the carrier according to agency standards.
  • Processes and follows up on cancellations requests to carriers to ensure accurate and timely resolution; maintains agency in financial equity whenever possible.
  • Reviews walk-in payments and verifies acceptability; processes as appropriate, providing receipts to payers or directing the receptionist to do so.
Marketing:
  • Actively solicits increases in coverage and rounds out accounts through sales to clients; leaves good documentation of all contacts.
  • Refers current and prospective clients to Life/Benefits Department and to Commercial Lines for solicitation of those lines of business.
  • Assists or completes other tasks as directed by agency management.
Personal and Organizational Development:
  • Sets priorities and manages workflow to ensure efficient, timely and accurate processing of transactions and other responsibilities.
  • Maintains a cordial and effective relationship with clients, co-workers, carriers, vendors, and other business contacts.
  • Keeps informed regarding industry information, new product information, legislation, coverage, and technology to continuously improve knowledge and performance.
  • Interacts with other effectively by utilizing good communications skills, cooperating purposefully, and providing information and guidance, as needed, to achieve the business goals of the agency.
  • Updates the agency management system with appropriate notes and suspense as needed, so that other staff members can follow behind.
  • Check suspense on a daily basis to stay up to date on items in process.

  • H.S. Degree / GED
  • Property & Casualty Insurance License
  • Two-Year Degree Preferred
Experience/Knowledge:
  • Must have a minimum of two years' experience in Personal Lines Insurance.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Special Technical Knowledge:
  • Must meet retention targets as assigned.
  • Must meet cross sale targets as assigned.
  • Must have 220 license, 2044 Personal Lines Agent License or 4-40 to work in one of our offic. To work remotely, a 220 license is required.
  • Full knowledge of insurance products and usage.
  • Adequate knowledge of rating procedures, coverage, and industry operations to effectively manage, maintain and underwrite assigned client and prospect lists.
  • Ability to carry out complex tasks with concrete and abstract variables.
  • Excellent computer skills needed and must understand functionality.
