Actalent is seeking a Field Research Assistant who lives in Kauai.

Job Title: Field Research Assistant

Job Description:

The Research Assistant will perform a variety of routine tasks associated with a seed research program. Responsibilities include pollination of corn plants, harvest of corn ears, and additional field and shade house tasks such as planting, thinning, weeding, tissue sampling, transplanting, pot or flat filling, plant tagging, seedling rearray, plant cutting, husk back harvest, and pest management activities including pesticide applications. The role also involves sample processing tasks like preparation of supplies, sorting, shelling, weighing, counting, preparation for shipping, and seed packaging. General facility operations tasks include cleanup, organization of samples and supplies, and other routine and non-routine tasks as needed. The Research Assistant may also operate powered tools and machinery, and must follow both written and oral instructions with attention to detail.

Work Environment:

The role requires physical activities such as lifting up to 40lbs and walking on uneven field surfaces for 8 or more hours per shift. The candidate must be able to work with and around plants and plant pollens, and outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods. Working safely is a condition of employment.
