Actalent is Hiring a Histologist Technologist II Near Atlanta, GA

Histology Technologist opportunities with one of the largest healthcare organizations in Georgia. Shift options and differentials available.

Description:

1. Performs the duties of the Histologist Technician I, as necessary.

2. Develops guidelines for patient surgical specimen analysis and processing, and determines correct labeling, preservation, and distribution of specimens to pathologists and workstations.

3. Performs instrument calibrations, standardizations, maintenance, and Quality Improvement functions. Reviews instrument calibrations, standardizations, maintenance, and Quality Improvement functions to ensure that guidelines are being followed and that systems failure are minimized.

4. Maintains knowledge, skills, procedures, and materials for special specimen processing such as special stains, immunos, request for specialty send outs, muscle biopsies, etc.

5. Determines and maintains adequate, economical inventory of supplies and materials to ensure that proper levels are available at all times.

6. Recognizes computer problems and takes first steps to resolve computer problems. Informs the supervisor of resolved and unresolved computer problems immediately. Participates in the resolution of computer problems as needed.

7. Handles difficult and problematic surgical specimens requiring an advanced level of skill and judgement to ensure that no or minimal adverse patient, physician, and employee outcomes occur.

8. Develops improvements and maintains specimen billing system. Has knowledge of all stages of billing including, all computer systems involved. Writing of late, charge sheets, troubleshooting billing issues, charge rejection, Ability to start and or complete an investigation to verify and collect all information for billing and correct reporting.

9. Trains and assists new employees, and certifies their orientation and performance level.

10. Assumes technical and administrative responsibility as assigned, or in the absence of the supervisor.

11. Performs procedures and techniques of a complex nature requiring judgement and discretion in the application and interpretation of test procedures and results.

12. Sets schedules for staff and ensures that work is completed on time. Performs special assignments and projects.

13. Performs outpatient/contract management case registrations when needed.

14. Performs selected morgue duties when needed including tissues rotation and disposal, releasing of bodies, and assisting with autopsies.

15. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Maintains a clean work environment. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury-accident to Manager.

Skills:

2 years experience in pathology lab

Must have completed a formal histology technologist program or an Associate/Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, or biological sciences.

Certified as an HT/HTL (ASCP) or eligible to sit for the test
