Description/Duties: Medical Technologist (MT)

• Prepare patient samples for testing and determine acceptability of specimens and results. Repeat specimen testing as necessary to ensure accuracy.
• Perform Hematology, Chemistry and Urinalysis testing.
• Perform laboratory tests and procedures using techniques such as ELISA, RNA extraction, flow cytometry, and more.
• Perform a variety of manual, semi-automated and automated Biochemical, Hematological, Microbiological and/or Blood Bank analysis on varied patient specimens, maintaining a high degree of accuracy, reliability and productivity.
• Maintain, calibrate, operate, & troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
• Accurately prepare, label and store reagents, standards, controls, and specimens for analysis.
• Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care.
• Participates in quality assurance & quality improvement activities.
• Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
• Recognizes normal, abnormal, unusual and critical results and takes appropriate action as established by laboratory policy.
• Verify accuracy of results and initiate corrective action when indicated.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelors' degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, or other related science.
• Certified Medical Technologist (MT) -OR- Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) -OR- Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) (Certification must be from one of the following: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency for Labs (NCA), or American Medical Technologists (AMT), or American Association of Bioanalytics (AAB)).
• 2 years of experience working in a hospital or clinical/diagnostic laboratory.
• Blood Bank experience is highly preferred.
• Ability to operate and maintain laboratory instruments.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Proficient with computers - familiarity with laboratory information systems are a plus.
• High level of attention detail.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Coachable and ability to take and initiate feedback well.
• Proven history of reliability and positive attendance.
