NOTICE OF VACANT POSITION
PARENT ENGAGEMENT SPECIALIST HEAD START – FAYETTEVILLE, NCClosing Date: Open until filled
Employment Type: Full-time/Non-exempt
Amount of Travel Required: 30%Salary: $42,240/ annuallyOverview Of General Responsibilities And DutiesThe parent engagement specialist will be responsible for Early Head Start and Head Start parent and family engagement components to create meaningful and lasting changes within the family dynamic. This position will help parents gain access to resources and services within the community to strengthen the well-being of their children. This position will promote effective parenting, child safety and development, social-emotional well-being, and academic achievement. This position will also develop a parent engagement plan and parent activities.
Essential job duties:
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate a program that engages parents, school staff, and community members
  • Use technology to facilitate and support parent/family outreach to meet the diverse needs of the community
  • Informs families about resources available and assists with the distribution of items, such as flyers, brochures, etc.
  • Provides support and referrals for crisis intervention as needed.
  • Promotes family literacy by encouraging family activities in the community and within the home. (ex: creating family time in the home, family outings, encouraging families to attend workshops, etc.)
  • Encourages and supports fatherhood involvement.
  • Provides support and coordination for parent orientations
  • Helps families establish an ongoing relationship with health and dental providers.
  • Create monthly newsletters to send out to families, staff, and community partners
  • Assist with outreach efforts to recruit new families, community partners, and volunteers
  • Review and understand Head Start Performance Standards
  • Manage logistics of family activities and communications (scheduling, developing outreach materials. Room set up, etc.)
  • Submit weekly reports to Family Engagement and Community Partnerships Manager
  • Attends meetings, training, etc. as assigned.
  • Adheres to and upholds the Employee Code of Conduct and Parent Code of Conduct.
  • Provides parent training on various topics as it pertains to family relationship skills, resiliency, child guidance, health and welfare of the family unit, and self-sufficiency.
  • Maintains a caseload of families as assigned by the Family Engagement and Community Partnerships Manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. (Assisting education staff in the classroom environment as needed)
QualificationsEducation:Associate Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or other related human services field. Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
Experience:One to two years of related experience with low-income children and families; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
General RequirementsCertificates & Licenses It is the employee's responsibility to obtain and keep current all certifications, licenses, physicals, etc., at all times.
Must have a valid driver's license and own transportation
The employee must obtain and maintain up-to-date First Aid and CPR certification.
Other RequirementsMust have experience with a variety of computer software programs, such as Microsoft Office, Excel, etc.
Must be able to communicate effectively and get along with a wide variety of people.
Ability to speak Spanish as a second language is preferred, but not required
The employee must be able to complete a criminal background check and maintain an active Criminal Background Check (CBC) Qualification letter through the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Division of Child Development.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Background checks with state and Federal law enforcement agencies are required. Selected applicants must submit to a pre-employment substance abuse screening test and receive a negative result for the use of drugs and alcohol as specified in agency policies. Must submit and receive negative results for random testing of same. The employee must have a valid North Carolina Driver's License. Must be able to pass a post-offer physical examination.
