JOB SUMMARY The MHE Operator Senior is responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient operation of primarily the heaviest and largest types of construction and maintenance equipment used in a full range of construction and maintenance work. Employee has mastered a broad spectrum of activities and responsibilities in multiple major maintenance areas such as surface maintenance, roadside/right-of-way maintenance, snow and ice removal/treatment, safety policies and procedures, horizontal and vertical equipment, and pavement striping. This includes attaining basic leadership skills and a complete understanding of standards, guidelines, policies, and concepts. Position Title: MHE Operator Senior Labor Category: USN Job Profile: Senior Heavy Equipment Operator Job Family: Facilities & Operations Business Job Title: MHE Operator Senior FLSA Classification: Reports to: Heavy Equipment Superintendent Job Level/Code: IC3/109042I3 Job Location: Martyr BG Ali Flaih Air Base JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Receives assignments, oversees the work of subordinate employees, MHE Operators and work crews in a maintenance and repair operation setting. Assists with estimates of aggregates and other materials and supplies necessary to maintenance and repair activities. Act in advisory capacity with respect to earth-moving or construction projects under the authority of other divisions. Inspects proposed work and makes recommendations on the use of heavy equipment. Acts as dispatcher for drivers and vehicles. Assists with projected work schedules, equipment maintenance and repair, materials and supplies consumed; keeps accurate inventory of equipment. Trains subordinate personnel including the facilitation of safety meetings. Maintains and repairs runways, taxiways, and ramp areas including plowing snow, weed removal, patching, etc. to ensure safe operation by airport users. Reads and interprets instructions and documentation. Moves materials, tools, and equipment to and from work locations in support of maintenance activities. Performs a variety of other skilled tasks including the operation of light to heavy-duty vehicles and equipment. Acts as a backup to the heavy equipment team to perform other required duties as assigned. Observes and follows all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment. Preparation of daily reports and the maintenance of records of operations. Other duties as assigned as assigned by the management. JOB QUALIFICATIONS Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is preferred. CDL driver’s license is required. Eight to ten (8-10) years of experience supervising the operation and/or maintenance of a variety of heavy road construction trucks and road maintenance equipment engaged in the construction and maintenance of a large underground utility system or similar system. (Automotive or mechanical maintenance of construction trucks and/or road maintenance equipment alone will not be qualifying). Maintain effective relationships with private contracting firms, other city departments and the general public. Labor and equipment needed in excavation and similar projects. Vocational/Specialized Training Good people skills. Proficiency in time management. Experience in working within and or around a military environment. A valid US driver's license. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK CONDITIONS Physical requirements may include lifting to 35 lbs., team lifting 50 lbs., climbing, extended sitting and standing, stooping, stretching, or bending.
