General PurposeThe Cheese & Coffee Assistant Manager’s main purpose is to promote Adams’ reputation, which is based on its quality products priced competitively. In addition, the Cheese & Coffee Assistant Manager assists the Manager in overseeing the department’s production, organization, product line, sales, and profitability through merchandising, inventory/expense control and management skills. Also is responsible for the operations of the Cheese department in the cheese manager’s absence. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job DescriptionPrincipal Responsibilities:
Ensure that each customer receives outstanding customer service by providing a customer friendly environment which includes greeting and acknowledging customers, maintaining outstanding standards, and general knowledge of the store’s products.
Delegate work to improve and maintain smooth and efficient store operation.
Communicate with staff and store management on a regular basis.
Set the tone and example for employee morale, and seek to improve it.
Interact with employees and assist customers in response to their concerns or complaints.
Train and develop department staff
Be familiar with and adhere to all laws, i.e. labor, unit pricing, sanitation, safety, etc.
Be aware of safety procedures and maintain an employee and customer safe department
Specific Task And Duties
Ordering products for the department
Check all products thoroughly to ensure quality
Write transfers for products shipped to other stores
Cooperate with other department managers to have a smooth running store
Maintain proper levels of stock throughout the department
Make sure that the staff helps customers promptly & courteously
Educate personnel about the products and how to handle and display properly
Delegate areas of responsibility to your personnel when possible.Try to convey a feeling of satisfaction in a job well done.
Keep department clean and organized
Always praise all of Adams’ stores to create high company morale.
Keep all areas of your department clean & organized: sales floor, counters, cases, prep area, and equipment
Attend meetings called by upper management in manager’s absence
Physical Requirements
Must be able to do physical work such as stocking and lifting up to 70 lbs.
Proper, clean attire must be worn
Ability to freely access all areas of the store including selling floor, stock area, and register.
Ability to stand for long periods of time Bending & climbing
Operation of choppers and knives for most of an 8 hour shift
Able to communicate clearly with customers
Able to operate a scale
Bending to lift products and bring them to disposal
Pushing or pulling heavy loads on u-boats
Ability to work varied hours/days to assist with overseeing department operations, approximately 40-45 hrs/week, if needed includes Saturday or Sunday
Mental/Reasoning Requirements
Set a good example for other employees – friendliness, politeness, ambition, courtesy
Strong knowledge of cheese and specialty food items
Listen to employees and be there to help them if needed
Able to read, spell, count and write to accurately complete all documentation
