Job Description:

Summary:

Performs work related to the carpentry trade such as layout, construction, alteration, maintenance and repair of airport buildings. Does fine carpentry work, makes cabinets and does finish work. Works under general supervision, usually without technical guidance. Assignments result from the flow of work or may be received from a supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Other duties may be assigned; the essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

· Performs tasks in the construction, alteration and repair of airport buildings.

· Repairs and refinishes furniture.

· Responds to problems for the Terminal Maintenance Department on his or her shift.

· Does fine carpentry projects such as making and finishing desks, tables, bookracks and other types of office furniture or cabinetwork.

· Makes and repairs to include, but not limited to, windows, screen doors, panel doors, floors walls and ceilings.

· Engages in the operation and care of woodworking machinery.

· Repairs roofs.

· Lays out work with or without blueprints, sketches or drawings.

· Makes rough sketches and designs for carpentry work.

· Installs and repairs floor coverings.

· Is responsible for the operation of a small woodworking shop.

· Requisitions supplies; maintains log of request(s) and service(s) performed.

· Operates man lifts and boom trucks as needed.

Qualifications:

· To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Special qualifications include:

· A thorough knowledge of the practices, techniques, tools, equipment and materials used in carpentry and cabinetmaking.

· Skill in the application of carpentry practices and techniques, to include knowledge of various types of wood and a working knowledge of safety measures and techniques.

· Skill in the safe use of woodworking tools.

Education/Experience:

· Minimum of high school level education.

· Four (4) years of construction carpentry experience both in framing and finish work; or

· Any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education and experience.

Physical Requirements:

· The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

· Ability to use carpentry tools for 10 hours per day.

· Climbing ladders and scaffolding, and working from high places.

· The ability to lift 50 pounds from a dead weight from ground level several times a day.

· Work in restricted places sometimes required.

Work Environment:

· The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position.

· Work will be conducted in and around buildings on the Rhode Island T.F. Green

· International Airport, and the 5 outlying airports.

· Outdoor work required, often in inclement weather.

· There will be a requirement to work in areas with dust caused by woodcutting or sanding; and

· The need to work around fumes from paint and other finishing products.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $19.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week

Schedule:

• 8 hour shift
• Monday to Friday
