Administration is Hiring a Transition Support Instructor Near Stoneham, MA

Qualifications: Prior experience working with high school students in community or employment settings. Master’s degree and MA DESE licensure in special education or a related field preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.

Purpose:

The transition support instructor (TSI) works one-on-one with high school students in community, work, and college settings to prepare them for adulthood.

Qualified candidates should have experience in the following areas:

  • Assessing skills necessary for postsecondary transition,
  • Job development and coaching
  • Functional like skills
  • Accommodations and supports for college and employment settings.

The TSI may be asked to collect data on IEP goals and objectives, and present information at Team meetings.

Candidates must be flexible, organized, and able to work one-on-one with students in public settings. Travel between schools and locations within the surrounding communities is required.

Scope of duties

  • Plan and organize instructional activities, and prepare necessary materials.
  • Develop volunteer and paid work opportunities based on individual student interests, skills, and preferences.
  • Train and coach the student to meet the employer/community standards and expectations as established.
  • Work to resolve obstacles to student work performance, e.g., conflicts with social interactions, abuse of break time, and changes in job expectations.
  • Foster natural supports in community settings, and fade presence when possible.
  • Train students how to access public transportation.
  • Participate in in-service training sessions and other professional development activities as may be provided from time to time.
  • Help students identify and engage in coping strategies.
  • Collect data.
  • Transport students as required.
  • Attend and participate in IEP meetings as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned by the director of transition services and/or executive director.

Employment is contingent upon passing a SAFIS fingerprint and CORI screening.

Evaluation:

Evaluated by the director of transition services.
