SS108 Scientist

Seeking an entry level scientist position to support the Planetary Geodynamics Laboratory in the Solar System Exploration Division of the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, Maryland. The candidate will work directly with scientists, engineers, and staff, supporting them on-site. This position will support lunar science integration by assisting with the development of lunar X-ray fluorescence technologies and the integration and development of data products for Artemis surface operations. This work will include, but is not limited to: laboratory testing of geologic materials, calibration set development and analysis, supporting data processing and lunar-relevant data product development, field work and/or field testing of X-ray technologies, and supporting Artemis science operations through participation in mission simulations, preparation exercises, and document development.

Required qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in physical sciences or engineering disciplines
Experience with X-ray fluorescence systems
Experience processing and interpreting geochemical data
Python programming
Strong communication skills
US Citizenship or Permanent Residency (LPR) required, with residency in the US for the past 3 years is required.

Desired qualifications:

Familiarity with geology and/or planetary science topics
Experience with field testing in geologic environments
Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical users
